I "need":D another folder for EDC and have it narrowed down to either the Spyderco Endura or CRKT M-16. What are the pros and cons of each knife? Are there any other recommendations that you guys have? I'm looking to spend $100 or less so if you could give me some suggestions as well as the pros and cons of that certain knife, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

I just got a Benchmade Griptilian 551. I haven't carried it that much yet, but it costs around 70 bucks (I got mine for $50) and I think it is a great value for the money. Nice 440C blade, Axis lock, very comfortable handle, and nice and light. I also handled an M16 at the same time and I think the Griptilian is nicer, both in terms of shape and quality. Plus, the 551 comes with your choice of a thumbhole or a thumbstud. I prefer the stud, and the drop point shape of the thumbstud blade. All in all a great knife for the money, IMHO.

Get yourself a "new-style" Endura. The FRN model is pretty light-weight, and the VG-10 steel is pretty hard to beat.:).

I would get the M-16, i have owned one before and now own a M-18. Both have been Reliable, both took a razor sharp edge(however i would get one with the AUS 8 steel) And both can be opened faster than any auto with the use of the Carson flipper. All in all i am very impressed with the knives.

Both knives are nice, but I'd go with the Spydie because it has more blade and it slices cardboard like I've never seen before.
Either way you won't lose, IMO.

The Spydie Delica I'm giving away to SOMEBODY (Robert Marotz) is a fine piece when OPEN. I don't care for it because it takes up too much pocket and is heavy with SS frame and scales. And I like thumb studs better than holes.

I have an M16-03Z. It is very sharp. It opens WAY fast with the flipper. Mine locks up good and passes spine wack. It is a trifle thick, but still carries better than the Spydie for ME!

Your mileage will most certainly vary!!!

Joe Shmoe = CHEAP!!!! but not stupid.

I'd go for the Endura lightweight in plain edge. Make sure to get latest version, the one with the Boye dent in the locking lever and most importantly - premium VG-10 blade steel.

I'd go for the Endura, hands down.

Lightweight FRN, awesome blade of VG-10 steel .

Another vote for the endura in frn.

Any spyderco is good for edc.

I have a spyderco goddard and it is a good carry on a clip. My m-16 is a great knife but the texture on the thumbstuds and the screws can wear your belt due to abbrasion. I only carry it on the bottom of my pocket

I work in a knife shop and have had a chance to compare the two. Needless to say, I own the Endura. The Endura has better steel, a stronger lock, and is lighter overall. I also prefer the blade shape.
I have abused this knife more than any other I own (lots of bush, shrub, and sapling cutting) and the fully serrated VG-10 blade works like a champ!

well with a hundred bucks to spend you have a lot of choices

any of the spydies would be good, delica, endura etc
the cuda edc is nice but the handle is a bit small imo
the griptilian is very nice the axis lock really makes it worth it
and the handle fills your hand nicely
on the higher end of the spectrum you can look into a kershaw boa, the boa is very nice the recurve is great and the speed assist is cool and the handle is the most comfortable one i've ever held in a production knife, you can also look into the BM AFCK or maybe TSEK

if you can spare another 20 bucks you can get basically any BM
the 94x series the 72x etc are all very nice,

M-16 was written about in an issue of TK, whereby the author noted that the single ground edges of the M-16 were likely to chip in certain instances.

Others have written in these forums that some had lock failures.

I have the Endura FRN version and it does indeed disappear in the pocket. I hope to look at a stainless version - hope it has the boyle dent, of which I might sandblast the handle myself to add more purchase to a reasonable hardy little knife.

I just received my CRKT Apache II with ats-34 steel and it is one sweet knife. Feels great in the hand, is razor sharp out of the box and has done a lot of cutting today and still shaves hair readily. The knife has been discontinued but for the price and the quality and steel I couldn't lose. Sorry about the bad photo. The knife was new out of box and the pic makes it looked battle scarred.:)

Sorry, meant to add that there is another one on ebay if you think you'll be interested. They also have an Apache with partial serated blade.

I think they're only single edge grind when you have serrations. I've seen M16 with double edge grinds without the serrations.

Wow, I didn't expect this many people to reply to my post. Anyway, I've decided on the Endura because I was playing with my Delica today and figured it'd be cool to have it's "older brother" as well. :D Again, thanks for all of the info and help, I really appreciate it!

We love knives, and we'd definately reply when you ask for a specific type of knife. I enjoy debating about that myself ;)
Oh, no need to thank me :)

Hey, I have an Apache too, its a Limited Edition one and I love it too. I love the fact that its spear point and the handle is great. Plus, for the price, thats a bargain.

My next folder is going to be an Al Mar SERE 2000...what a write-up!!! Best survival folder out!!!!Looks great too. I believe it's one TANK of a folder. Not sure of price though...The Al Mar site quotes US$189....a bit pricey, but I suspect dealers will give a better deal.

Thor, you should be able to get a SERE for around $120. Thats what I paid for mine. I usually get all my knives from one fellow I meet at my local gun/knife shows. He goes to almost all of them and has a real nice selection of BM, MT, William Henry, CRKT, Kershaw, SAK, etc. The Al Mar is awesome for the money. When you handle it, it'll beat out any knife close in price in fit, finish, and factory sharpness.
