Well, after a good hard look at our bills, I've realized I need a second job. I had one for over 7 years, but had given it up before my daughter was born and had hoped to be able to avoid getting another one, but I don't see how. I'm also looking at liquidating most if not all of my collection (most all of which are users) and the two guns that I own (Mossberg 590 & XD .45acp) which makes me very, very sad. I don't smoke, drink, or chase women. Guns, knives, & IDPA are/were my only vices, but it looks like I'm going to have to cut way back. I might even have to go cold turkey for a while. I'm hoping that if I can get started at the second job ASAP, then hopefully I can stop the bleeding.

I just wanted to share this here, because I don't think my wife or anyone else I know will really care or realize how painful letting go of the "family" knives will be, not to mention little or no IDPA (I've been shooting @3 saturdays a month for several years now).

Thanks for letting me vent.

That is a big drag!:grumpy: Good luck in finding a second job that you like.

Best Regards,
Tony G

Best of luck to you, Greg. Lean times find us all at some point. You'll make it back out in no time.

Sorry to hear this man...

You'll get back on your feet. All good people do! :)

I am in the same boat my friend. I know what you are talking about. Luckily for me I am single and I can cut things pretty thin. Best of luck to you. The great thing is that INFI is so bombproof, the supply will only grow over time ;). You can always rebuild later

Honestly, keep one knife and both guns. Do NOT sell them. You've got hte right two guns. One to protect you on the street, one to protect you at home.

On the knives you do sell, price em high and tell us why. Maybe that way you can keep the guns and one good knife.

selling your guns and knives is just a very temorary patch job on the situation, in the despiration of selling them you are never going to get any where close to their value. For me there are other ways to cut back the spending, I walk most every where I go and even though I am over weight I don't buy fast food or junk food very often. Back in my drinking days I pawned , traded or sold stuff that I truly miss.Hang tuf IMHO.

If they are paid for I wouldn't bother selling them. I would be cutting up credit cards
and consolidating current bills into one payment. I know that took the edge off my family a couple years ago. Good luck, you'll be back on your feet in no time

I know the feeling. I keep telling myself I will get a second job. Don't sell all the knives. That won't solve your problem it will only make you sad. If there is something you or yours desperately need sell what you must to get it. Selling things you love is only a temporary fix you will regret. Look for a job that won't make you too miserable and keep the blades. If not for your sake do it for your family. The need a happy father and husband, not a resentful or melancholy one

Best of luck man I wish you the best

Greg,
Do what you need to do to get things straight. The bright side is, you can always start collecting your users again! Things will look different again, but not overnight. I appreciate the fact that you are stepping up and making sure what is important is taken care of!!! Good Luck to you and God Bless, c4man.

I wish you the best of luck finding another source of income, and may you stumble into something lucrative very quickly. I have been in your shoes before, when I was my late teens, early 20's, and it suxx giving up what you love... Believe it or not, I spent a year plus as a homeless person before my luck turned for the better.

Unless you are in dire straights, I suggest only cutting back, at first, on all of the things that you do for fun... Like maybe going shooting only once or twice a month instead of 3, and using about half of the usual ammo or less per trip to the range... Just a suggestion. Also, if you're going to sell your knives, I suggest only listing one or two at a time to increase your odds of getting what you need from them... and if you happen to land a decent 2nd job quickly enough, you might still have the ones that you like & use the most. If you trim a little from each "extra" or "not necessary" luxury, hobby or other expenditures, you might find enough to ease the strain, while still benefiting from the relieved stress these hobbies bring you... And that just may help you make it through this rough patch...

THINK POSITIVE!! You will get through this. Hang tough! ...And again, I wish you & yours good fortune & good luck.

A man should NEVER be without a gun or two..........

Hope you can find another way so you can keep them.

.

GregB,

Do what you have to bro, these things (guns and knives) are dear, but they are only things...

Even if you can't "buy" a lot, i hope you'll stick around - you're a part of this community

A modest proposal... Your daughter...can't you sell her for a profit? Maybe then you'd break even on your hobbies, and have more to spend in the coming months, to boot!

A few years ago I reached a point where I had to sell almost everything that I owned, some guns I had had since I was old enough to shoot. I also sold alot of my knife collection. It hurt for a while & some could not be replaced, but you cant eat them! later after I got back on top of things, I now have a new collection, not as big, but I specialize more now. just a few very good things(Busses) you will get back on top if you have a little faith & are willing to try! Good Luck!

Try to keep one or two things that you really enjoy.

That may be one of the Busses and the XD45.

Their value will not be missed in your budget.

Sell the things that are less important.

Good luck with that second job.

Do what you need to do, but think carefully about it. You WILL come through this stronger than ever AND better prepared to pursue the few things in life that you love with your family by your side and $$$ intact. What could be better?

I start my 2nd job this evening at the local Food Lion. I commute an hour each way for my 1st job & I've gotten used to going to bed much earlier since our daughter was born, so I'm going to start by just working 1 night a week and the occasional Saturday until I toughen up:) It's just $8.25 an hour, but it'll help. I still need to sell some stuff, but maybe not everything, especially since I'm trying to go cold turkey on the IDPA. More reluctant to let go of the INFI and other knives than the guns as I know the blades will be harder and more expensive to replace.

Sorry to hear that. Do what you have to do, but think it over carefully first - which I'm sure you have already done. If you're going to have to sell parts of the collection, or all of it, might as well start with the safe queens and keep the dearest users as long as you can. Good luck with the new job, too! :)
