So to kick off the hot summer weather I wanted to start with a hot summer giveaway.

We are going to giveaway a Benchmade 940BK that has had the back spacer anodized blue instead of the usual purple/pink. The blue sets this knife off much nicer.

I can hear it now....How do I enter? Easy...start off your post with "Giveaway Entry" then either post a picture of the worst knife you ever bought and why you thought it was a good idea at the time, or post a story about the dumbest thing you have ever done with a knife, or lastly you can make a compelling argument for why the poster above doesn't deserve it.

We will use a random number generator to pick the winner on the 17th. In the event that a post is picked that is not an official entry we will keep generating until we get a winner.

Here is the knife being given away...let the fun begin

One time I licked peanut butter off of a RAT 1 and sliced my tongue, like 1.5" long but not too deep. Bled like heck. Felt real dumb.

Giveaway entry as a kid I once was practicing throwing some cheap folding knife against the barn it didn't break but the last throw glanced off and the knife disappeared never to be found

Worst knife I ever bought, It would have to be my Esee Zancudo. I purchased it from Knifeworks and had my user name engraved on the blade. I found that I just did not like the liner lock at all, it would hurt my thumb every time I would close it, It bites occasionally so I don't use it often. Although I do use it for odd job's around the house and it's needless to say I need to repair the edge. I have it somewhere around here. :)

Thank you TBM your generosity is certainly humbling.
Good luck to everyone too!

a couple years ago I tried to shave myself with an Opinel 7. it ended up cutting my neck two times and left some large scars for two weeks.
I've never tried again [emoji108]

I was just starting to become more knowledgeable about blades and steels and such, but needed a work knife for my job at the time, roofing. While at the local Walmart picking up other things for the house, I decided to stop by and check out what they had in their knife selection that could suit my basic needs for a work beater that would be abused.
Roughly $20. √
Gerber, a "quality name brand" right? √
Decent egos, grip, etc √
Roughly 3-4" blade. √
Bear Grylls, I mean, c'mon if that guy endorses it, it HAS to be good, right?

So I bought it... And it sucked. Gerber's famed "mystery steel" got dull from cutting the air while closing the thing. Only "good" thing about it was it made a decent pry bar for glue cans, never broke (though I kinda wished it would have, so that I would've replaced it sooner)... It did serve as a utility/work knife for about 5 and a half years, before I put one last edge on it with a grinder and gave it to a guy I work with who never has a knife and pays close to half his paychecks to child support... Definitely the most unimpressive knife I ever had, expected more from the name based on Gerber's I had owned some 10+ years prior. I've since greatly upped my general knowledge of knives, (not just brand recognition), and work in the steel industry so have learned and exponentionally greater amount about steel itself; compositions, treatments, alloys, etc. And will be hard pressed to ever buy another Gerber again... Sad for an American brand, but then, there's always Buck (and others). And since the Gerber in question wasn't even made in America, but China, well, there's always schrade, CRKT, and a host of others to choose from, which have all been umpteen times better knives then that scout was...

The Benchmade 940 has been on my list of knives to get for a while- Love the look of this knife. Thanks for the chance!

The worst knife I have bought so far is the Schrade SCHF37m . The coating is terrible so I decided to strip it (first time attempting this- I think it turned out OK). Also, I was unaware that the tip is weak and people have posted reviews with the tips broken off. I just bought it and now saw a video that they have a new series coming out in a few months with better coating and better handles (less aggressive jimping).

I was looking at a fixed blade in a kydex sheath at my local knife store and the knife was stuck in there well. When I finally pulled hard enough to get it loose I had my finger in the way and pulled it across making a nice gash. Needless to say I was embarrassed the owner of the store said don't worry about it, happens all the time. It was a boker prymate, sharp out of the box.

Dumbest thing I did with a knife (technically a multitool) was slice my finger pretty bad when trying to use the can opener while camping.

I do dumb things more than I care to admit so this is easy. About a month ago I found an old Buck 301 in the back of the night stand drawer. I hand sharpened it to a mirror edge and wanted to clean the blade up. After soap and water it was looking pretty good but had a little gunk on it. That's when I did it. I dipped my fingers in some alcohol and proceeded to rub the blade to get the gunk off, and without a thought ran my index finger along the razor sharp edge. Ouch! Won't do that again!

Just the other day i was trying open a package of lunchmeat and so i grabbed a serratled steak knife to help. In my brash hunger, i forgit the golden rule and cut towards myself, splitting the tip of my finger DEEP. I bled everywhere and i still squirm at the thought of feeling the knife cut me...it was one of those where you feel the blade just sliiiiide right through your flesh. Thanks!

Giveaway entry- for me its the Endura 4. It arrived sharp but after normal yard work like trimming limbs on fruit tree and cutting burlap, this thing is dull as a butter knife. Not to mention vertical blade play. I'm just disappointed after reading all the Spyderco hoopla.

Giveaway entry...I would say the dumbest thing I ever did was put a button release auto in my front pocket....later that day I reached in my pocket and the blade was somehow released, cutting the daylights out of one of my fingers.I'm lucky that's all that happened. so yes, they can open in your pocket, and I didn't have any keys or coins in there with it. never do that again.

I was a teenager at the time and I believe some alcohol was involved so the stupidity level was at an all-time high. Anyway, we were playing that idiotic knife game where you lay your hand flat against a table with your fingers spread and you try to stab the knife in between them as fast as you can. I don't think I need to tell you guys the outcome. Still have the scar and I'll try to post a picture later tonight. The knife was an old Buck lockback. A 110 perhaps? Can't remember exactly.

Thanks for the give away!

giveaway entry... I use to get the dirt out from under my nails with my edc until I wasnt paying attention one day and sliced my thumb open, definitely dumb to not pay attention to sharp things

thanks for the giveaway!

One time, a co-worker asked to borrow my s30v kershaw blur and after I gave it to him, he true to cut open these metal straps that secured a commercial size oven to the pallet it was on. Didn't chip the blade, but the edge rolled severely and he told me the knife sucked. I had to explain that a lightweight knife such as the blur can't cut through metal straps. Then I told him to get the tin shears. Took me a while to get it sharp again. Would love to win my first giveaway! Will also be my first benchmade! Thanks for the opportunity

I was working at a big box electronic store. I was opening a box with a serrated edge Kershaw. I decided it would be a good idea to cut towards myself, specifically my thumb. The knife ate through the tape on the box, and then ate up my thumb as well. The serrations tore through the side of my thumb and turned in to a few stitches and a nice little reminder scar. On the bright side I'll never do it again.

Giveaway entry. So cool!

Worst knife I've bought since joining this forum is the Zancudo, for a 2nd time.. It's not a bad knife, I just don't like the frame lock. My brother carries it still, despite now having a Manix 2 and Endura.
