ANOTHER GIVEAWAY!

On the freebies block today is (1) XL Grey Kershaw T-shirt.

Conditions of contest:

1 post, and only one 1 post. Don't ruin your chances by posting twice for any reason!

You must have FIVE previous posts in the Kershaw Sub-forum.

There is one member on the sub-forum who is unable to participate, he know's who he is, so don't ruin the fun or help anyone else! Sorry bud, but insider info just wouldn't be fair.

On to the contest...

1.) Post the one feature that you look for when making a knife purchase. Dont ramble, just one single feature that gets your attention immediately! Frame lock, specific scales, blade style/shape, steel, Flipper, AO, etc...

2.) Guess how much MONEY I spent at the Kershaw warehouse sale! The person who comes the closest without going over will win.

This contest will run until Sunday 12-14 at 10pm EST.

The Mafia are allowed multiple posts to allot for any family hazing that you incur from not reading the rules.

I'd say that the blade shape is the obvious feature that I look for, and I prefer drop point. If it's clip point, tanto, or even sometimes reverse tanto, I won't like it. Dozier has some good blade shapes. As for how much you spent, how about $300.

I Know , I know, you spent just enough to get some really cool stuff !!! G10 and satin finished blades always get my attention !

I look for the steel type, either one that I have heard good things about and want to try, or a favorite of mine, like S30V, 154CM, D2, etc.

And I think you spent $454

And thank you!

Attractive blade shape...doesn't have to be a particular style, but it needs to fit the knife...it has to work with the knife's overall aesthetics.

And, oh... $1075.00.

Thanks for the chance!

Come on guys, be a bit more specific...what blade shape...what lock style...what level of steel...etc...quality isnt a "feature" :p

I won't enter, but I will say this about what I look for.
When I flick a knife open, I see how it feels while the blade is in rotation. I've been playing the piano for a while now, so it's gets easier to detect grittiness, sluggishness, etc. Is it easy to open with a thumbstud/flipper?

Next comes how it feels in the hand. I don't want any hot-spots, and I want to be able to hold it without it slipping out.

I then check the lock. How is the lockup? Does it fail a simple pressure test? Is it easy to disengage? How far is the travel of the liner/frame lock?

I then check the pocket clip--for me, I want to see it with either a stylish clip for dress pants carry or with a subtle clip for jeans carry. Is the tension on the pocket clip too tight?

I then check to see if the blade wobbles. A little side to side is fine with me, but I don't want mine wobbly.

I then close the knife and check to see if the blade hits either side of the handle. As long as its relatively centered, I'm cool.

After that, is the blade warped? Grinds off? I rarely check this initially, unless I'm seriously considering buying it.

Lastly, how does it ride in my pocket--I like my knives out in a hurry. I also don't want myself "feeling" it. A ZT 0300 is the max I'll go--and I'm astounded at how well it carries.

[/Thread derail]

I look for either a nice frame lock or a compresion lock, both are strong and rarely fail, as for how much you spent I would say $378.22 ;)

What I've looked for lately in knives is the history of their designer or the design. Those with an interesting back story, like the Random/Mini Tasks being the first AO knives and being designed by Ken Onion or the Spyderco Chinese folder and BM Dejavoo being designed by Bob Lum and being based on a traditional Chinese design. Plus, I have to like the way they look.

My guess is you actually spent $0 at the warehouse sale, because you weren't there. Your agent/proxy did the spending for you and spent $576.80.

-Lock- Most important aspect for me... Strength and ease of use .. Currently Like the Ram lock...

330$ on new toys!

Thanks for putting clothes on our backs...

Seriously, for me it's the brand. For example stay away from Kerhaw the chinese bastard cousin of Kershaw.

I'm guessing you spent 1200 or thereabouts. No point for a guessing game if it ain't a cool amount!

Pick just ONE thing?

innovation. Finding a different and better solution to an old problem.

As for how much you spent... $362?

Edit: UGH, J_Curd. Fine. A Framelock.
