Rick I am not very sure about when the C-49 Wegner Jr. hit the Spyderco line up but I am fairly certain that the C-48 big Wegner model was introduced sometime around late 96 or early 97. And I believe it was sometime around 1999 to late 2000 when it was discontinued. But both the Wegner models for sure are collector's gems.
It was definitely one of the mainline blades out of Spyderco's ATS-34 era. Tim Wegner still makes the C-48 model available through his company known as BLADE-Tech. I am a devout Spyder-head through and through but I will admit that Tim Wegner's knives are very well made. I have one of Blade Tech's catalogs and they have a really nice, high quality line up of Blades and other fine merchandise.
