Well, it looks like 1,000 posts is coming up fast for me. Since I love to cook, I love photography, and I love Becker knives, we're combing all three for a contest.

What am I looking for and what are the details?
  • Cook or prepare something awesome to eat
  • Use a Becker knife in some part of the process and post photo proof
  • Plate up the food in an appealing presentation
  • Post one presentation pic of the final product as your contest entry
  • Above you contest entry picture post "Beckerhead #xxx reporting for KP duty"
  • You must be a Beckerhead
  • Your submission needs to be completed by May 28th
  • Winner will be judged by myself and two friends who aren't on the forums

Chatting is ok, since I'm not drawing numbers. Anything from sammiches to prime rib will do, just make me hungry for it! The winner will receive their choice of a new set of BK&T Micarta scales, a BK11, or a BK14. Both knives will be the standard factory versions, not special runs. If it's really close, I reserve the right to award an additional prize. :) Alright Beckerheads, let's get cooking!

A little inspiration from my kitchen:
Baked sweet potato and blue cheese stuffed beef tenderloin.

BeckerHead #220 reporting for KP duty! I already worked in a kitchen at summer camp for three months, now I get to cook real food, this should be fun! Reserved for possible culinary catastrophe.

Edit: Got my Culinary Catastrophe up. It ain't pretty, but it's food made with a Becker. And it's a classic, sort of.

Count me in. Don't know what I'll do, but I can be creative when my creativity is being woken up and encouraged by a BK14.

Today for lunch I made my family Teriyaki Chicken Stir Fry w/ Brown Rice

(Sorry if this is a bit lengthy)

To start, I have a general rule to NOT buy pre-made sauces so last night I made a batch of my homemade teriyaki sauce and let it all sit overnight to let the flavors marry. The sauce itself is in the tupperware in front of all of the ingredients. It also works well as a marinade but I cut the meat into small strips so marinading was unnecessary, also I can see how the meat is cooking better if I don't add the sauce until the final stage of cooking.

My recipe is as follows (sorry, no exact measurements as I go by taste/appearance/texture):
Soy Sauce
Orange Juice (I prefer to use fresh squeezed but I was out of oranges, it's not a deal breaker IMO)
Sriracha Hot Sauce (Also a pinch of crushed red pepper but it's not in the pic)
Rice Vinegar
Mirin
Honey
Brown Sugar
Toasted Sesame Seeds
Minced Garlic (Jarred was all I had, out of fresh ATM)
Minced Ginger
(It will not be very thick, but I add a corn starch slurry when I am cooking it and it thickens it right up to desired consistency.)

I used my BK2 because I felt like it needed some love/attention and I wanted to show that it is perfectly capable of this kind of task:

Chopping mushrooms

IMG_5858.jpg

And broccoli (Sorry no pics of me cutting up the chicken, I don't like to grab my camera when my hands are not sanitized and it's a pain to wash/dry them to take a chicken pic)

IMG_5861.jpg

My little helper. She wants you to eat your broccoli!!!

IMG_5864.jpg

The rice is done, just waiting on the chicken/veggies/sauce to finish

IMG_5870.jpg

Final product, used a mold to plate the rice and garnished with toasted sesame seed. Sorry my pic quality isn't so great I'm not the best photographer and I can't afford nice cameras. Turned out pretty good, my daughter ate her whole plate and she is notoriously picky!

Thanks for the chance!

well, dem.
I missed seeing this thread earlier, so I didn't take any pictures while making dinner using my bk16 to dice up onions & smoked pork to put on a pizza.

ok here goes.

center cut pork loin with a garlic, lemon zest, rosemary, black pepper, and parsely (for color) marinade. (the marinade consists of butter, bacon grease (hell yeh), and cornstarch). The same marinade was warmed and them drizzled over the final product which was grilled over a gas grill with a mesquite wood block for that smoky flavor
