Time to lighten the load......

Hello all. Well, I haven't been on the forums for a number of years now. I had some health issues that forced some things in my life to the back burner or some had to be dropped. I have recently come to the decision that I am at a point in my life (no, I am not dying) where I need to lighten the load, so to speak. I don't want my wife or son encumbered with not knowing what I have or what to do with it. I have two sons, one who isn't really interested in my knives other than to have a good sharp one for hunting. His brother on the other hand, wouldn't be a good choice to pass things on to. It would be like giving hand grenades to a monkey. That's all I will say about that. After a lot of thought of what to do, I decided to come back to the forums for some help. I always enjoyed my time here at the Busse forum and at the outdoor survival forum. I figured what better place would there be to offer the knives I have collected than to the folks that would know what they are and would appreciate them the most. I would rather offer them here than on an online auction site. The help I need is to try to find out what the knives are worth and to decide a fair selling price. Because of not spending any time here for years I have no idea of what the value of these items is. I have some Busse and Swamp Rat knives, a few Gossman knives and some other manufacturers along with a couple of antique looking things and two hawks (about 34 items plus or minus). I realize I will have to go Gold to sell.. Would Bernard Levine be the person to talk to on current value or selling prices? Any help would be appreciated. Like I said, I came here because this was one of the forums I used to spend a lot of time on. If I should have asked this on another forum, please let me know. Thank you!

Hey Puukko,

Good to see you're doing well. I'm sure you'll get plenty of offers to take a look at your list and give you some estimates (myself included), then you can likely just calculate the averages of the prices you get and be pretty close to what they sell for on the exchange. I constantly think like you are right now and would hate to see my stuff go someplace other than to someone who would appreciate the tools (and upgrades/enhancements/accessories) for what they are. Hope this helps and you get the results you're after.

All the Best to You and Yours,

Stump

Hi Puukko

Welcome back and I follow your reasoning on lightning the load. There is a Consolidation Sticky at the top of the page where you will find a Link to "TrailWolf's" Price guide...it's not the most current pricing on newer models, but if you have older models it will give you a reasonable reference to year of production and price on a large number of models Both Busse and Swamprat. Best of Luck on your Sales!!!

Hello, I checked the price guides and they basically show what the original selling price was. I am wanting to know current values, ie; recent selling prices on these items. Thanks for the tip.

Current selling prices vary widely depending on the Model and Finish as well as Rarity of particular models. You can use the advanced search function on specific models but again if they are OLD even finding the exact model listed for sale recently may be tough. Using the price guide and figuring what your idea of inflation over time may be about the only option. If you list and it brings lots of low ball and crazy offers remember there is treachery at the trough. The exchange will give a rough pricing guideline but the obscure models are widely sought after as GRAILS and price them accordingly...:)

1. Buy a gold membership
2. Post a thread listing the exact knives you have and asking the value of each
3. List them on the exchange
4. ??????
5. Profit.

Really, without buying a gold membership, you're stuck. You won't.be.able to do much without it.

In some.ways.it.sucks, but it's worth the money

Good to see you went gold!

I just sent you a PM with my email address, you know, to prove to myself that I have self control. (Fast forward: I have no self control)

Hey Puukko,
Like Stump said, get a couple guys to peruse the list and take an average of what they think. Then put them on the exchange. In the meantime, post a group shot of them here and let the hogs start to salivate for the upcoming INFI feast!

Don't Sell!! You'll just want them back next month. What good is money anyway, Paper to burn. You probably got many more years of enjoyment out of them. When your dead you wont care what happens to them. You cant take it with you. Or can you? Just get buried with them just in case. I for one will not tell you the going rate because I am your true friend and I say Keep em all. I am saving you torment down the road . Your boy , A monkey with a hand grenade? Please , even Neanderthal man knew how to use a knife. It's a tool To be used. Don't sell!!

Welcome back, Plenty of good people willing to give pricing suggestions and if you'd like another just PM me or email. That said I'd give second and third thoughts before releasing old grail Busse blades. So difficult finding old school Busse's but that's just my .02 worth.

Thanks everyone. I was hoping to try to find out what my knives were worth before I posted any for sale. I may have to rethink that. I have several Swamp Rat, Gossman, and some old timers too. This is turning out to be a bigger project than I thought.
