Time to show what lighter/s you carry...

Even though I used mine in an industrial enviroment, I had a hard time finding a replacement when my PB207 went missing. I found a guy in England who sells them and will ship overseas. I ordered one and received it in about a week. He was good to deal with and answered emails quickly, provided quick service and provided a tracking number. http://www.hill.u-net.com/

Can anyone recommend a decent, starter Zippo? Hopefully, one where the fluid stays put for more than 40 hours.

uh...

i don't think any one zippo will hold fuel or is "better" than any other. the zippo lighter has remained pretty much the same since it's invention in 1932.

for a "starter" i'd just find whatever is cheapest. i got my zippo at meijers for 5.99 on clearance. most standard zippos don't stray far from 10-20 bucks, i'd speculate. so just find one that catches your eye and matches your knife ;)

OR. you could do it right the first time and go with the Ti Zippo.

With about 7 or 8 of these pony tail black rubber bands around the midsection to keep it in my pocket

Just purchased a Zippo with a Z-Plus butane insert!

I've always carried a Bic (still do), and I've got one of those metal matches (I think it's long dried out, but it's on a key ring I always carry)

Went to a cigar store, told the guy what I was after and he led me to the Zippo case. The Z-Plus was $15. Said that I guessed I needed a Zippo to (I've got an old one I found, but my name's not Micheal, so...) He said that they had a special, buy one of the brass Zippo's with the store logo on it (The Outlaw Cigar Company) for $25, they throw in the Z for free! I got a bottle of butane as well (he said that Walmart brand isn't "clean" enough, and will end up clogging the jets). Came to $30 and change.

Haven't melted a penny (yet), but my 7 year old son is looking forward to that! I'd like to find one of those Titanium cases I saw in a previous post (but, I'll have to save up for that!)

If someone would just put a tiny teflon gasket or flange around the bottom of the insert, that would help with the evaporation.

I saw that. It looks great, but my wallet says "No." My credit card is still cooling off from the holidays.

Besides, a "classic" Zippo would be fine by me. I simply want one that the TSA would not want to confiscate, i.e, one that looks normal and functions. If it looks exotic, the TSA may just relieve you of it.

Will they confiscate them even if you can show them that the butane has been drained?

Probably not, but once you've gone that far, you might as well tuck the lighter into your checked baggage, because it's been rendered useless.

I'd stick with a classic Zippo that won't attract attention. I have to look on the Zippo site for something that appeals to me.

And I am determined to take a few boxes of matches with me, too. A bit old-fashioned, perhaps, but that's me.

I just carry a classic bic disposable--always orange, always de-childproofed. The orange is partially because I'm partial to the color and partially because by always carrying the same color (and it being a seemingly less common carry) I always know (no exceptions, yet) when someone is trying to disappear with mine. As for the child lock, though I do have a son--the lighter never leaves my pocket and I don't feel I, personally need the protection. The forced lock annoys me, on principle.

Every now and again, I see a two pack, both orange, in Wal Mart and have an irresistible urge to impulse buy it. So I have a backlog of orange lighters just waiting.

(I do have a zippo that I'm quite fond of, but find the bic to be more convenient as well as a lighter, more invisible carry. That and, since our last move, am not sure where the Zippo is. D'oh.)

I carry a plain brass zippo with silver insert. Let the case tranishing to a dull yellow, looks way much better to me than it was shiny and with the gold insert. I love it.

i'm a zippo man myself, have a harley davidson with chrome case, have carried zippos for years and you can't beat them. they are kind of like cv steel in a knife you have to take care of them "fuel" but they work forever.
i have to keep a couple of rubber bands wrapped around it to keep it in my pocket. later, ahgar
