Hi,

Would BF members support starting a "Kitchen Knife Discussion"?

Currently, I have to ask my questions in the General Knife Discussion! :jerkit:

I notice knifeforums.com has one called "In The Kitchen", which is used heavily with Posts-11,425 and Views-172,222.

If this thread receives positive feedback, would a senior BF member bring it to the attention of the BF owners, perhaps, they would be in agreement.

Thank you,

BabyJWuu :D

Moved to the proper forum for Bladeforums business, Service & Support.

The best way to justify a kitchen forum here is with evidence of interest among BF members. What other websites do is none of our business.

Yes, we could discuss all of the different blade styles that Murray Carter makes. Because once you have Carter Cutlery in your kitchen that's
all that's left to discuss.

I'd be interested. Lately there are a little more kitchen knives related threads in General forum. Although, I am not sure how many BF visitors come to this area at all, so it'll be hard to gauge interest from here.

Got 6 Kitchen knives (3 slicers, 2 mid French Chef and 1 Santuko) in 1095 out in the garage clayed and ready for heat treat. I'd be real interested in a Kitchen knife section. Plus some of the makers might have another spot for when they make kitchen knives.

mmmmmmmmmm........I like knives with a flat grind, they slice better

Great Idea.
I like a lot of different knives.
My wife has only appreciation for kitchen slicers.
Ive messed up my last few purchases by getting slicer/choppers.
Too bad they just go into MY stash.
I could use some info and offerings of custom kitchen slicers.

Put a post there asking folks to come here and register their support.

Obviously, that would be a lot better!

I do think people tend to support the creation of new subforums when in reality they would never participate in them themselves.

+1. I'd like to see that.

I think there's a justification in this case. Kitchen knives range from house level to professiona, there's a lot of room for discussion of design, performance, custom, production aspects.

I, personally, enjoy making them and playing with designs and think that I'd learn a lot from a kitchen knife section.

I'm all for it, and I did a basic search, using only "kitchen" as the term. I found the following.

The last post on all of the above threads is no more than about 10 days ago. When there are subforums such as razors and grooming tools as well as the sword and knife throwing subforums that receive a very small amount of traffic I think it should be easy to justify adding kitchen knives. With these topics I listed alone, there would be more active threads in the kitchen knife forum than any of the three others I just mentioned. I know for one that I would be very active in it, as my kitchen knives are hands down the knives I use most.

Also, very frequently kitchen knives are listed by makers in the makers for sale forum, and these usually are bought by someone. I think this further proves that there is interest in kitchen knives here on the forum.

FWIW, I would have posted a few kitchen knife threads since I've joined but I didn't think General would be the best place. Having worked in a knife store, I only really know what I used to sell and a little about old carbon blades. It would be cool to have a dedicated forum to learn some stuff.

That "other place" has a vibrant community tilted toward Japanese steel, and it would be great if BFC could establish its own community for kitchen knives alone.

I know that there are quite a few cooks/chefs at BFC, some of them with extensive training. Maybe we could get Alton Brown to post. He's been seen at Blade on occasion.

So, we've got a couple of basic members, a couple of platinum members, a gold member and at least one maker who are all interested.

I wouldn't mind seeing a kitchen cutlery forum-- I'm making three sets of kitchen knives for my friends and family this Christmas!
