The las big commercial mine in SD shut down last year, but the jewelry end of it isn't over. A search on MSN turned up over 200,000 hits on "Black Hills Gold". Al and his Mom got me a buckle several years ago that has a different plate, but the same center inlay as the one on this page, in the upper left - Grape leaf and vines, with grapes, that is almost a logo for Black Hills goldsmiths. Not very obvious in the pic, but it uses white, yellow and pink gold. There is also a green, but it may not be natural (some other metal smelted in with the gold to create the color, perhaps). May be the Cherokee in me, but silver was always my favorite until I saw this stuff. The vines in the pattern are gold wire, and loop just about 1/32" out from the inlay - enough for a klutz like me to snag on something - so it doesn't get worn much. Very nice.
