We cut with this sword over at The Lair today (6/16/07) and I gotta say- this thing is a BEAST. Triple mats? Like Butter! I had to look to see if I'd actually hit the mat to verify that I had cut it! Everyone on the crew cut with this at one time or another and it cuts like madness- mats, triple mats, pop bottles- this thing is awesome!
This sword started life as a blade blank for a katana machined by Angus Trim for a joint project with another firm, but this one was surplus to need and Gus handed it over to me. I needed a sword for today and I'd been down with a bug all week. I didn't have time to finish any serious projects so I took an afternoon and reground the AT Kat into a TakCat for the party. I gave the sword a broader primary bevel and a full 'zero-ground edge' with the convex bevels meeting at the edge in traditional katana style. Then I ground the tip into an 'american tanto' style chisel tip so that it'd be tack-tic-kull and did a double layer para-cord wrap as shown. Everyone agreed that the wrap provides an excellent yet non-abrasive grip.
The original blade was modelled on an antique, so handling is quite correct and the harmonic balance is excellent. This will be a fantastic sword for forms practice, cutting practice or-dare I say it? Tactical use in a combat environment. If the unquiet dead were to rise from their graves hungering for the flesh of the living this is the sword that I would reach for- serious zonbie-slayer here!
OK- all fun aside this blade is Marquenched 5160 spring steel mono-tempered to HRc52-54, excepting the tang which has been drawn back to HRc45-48. The handle is wrapped in Desert Camo paracord with a black paracord overwrap that is counter-wrapped to enhance grip. This sword is provided with a simple black leather scabbard reinforced at the throat and chape.

My Tak Cat is the first one ever made. it is new and unused except for me slashing the occasional pumpkin and one errant zombie who somehow got past the razor wire and the land mines. but I digress...

I will insert pictures later this evening but the handle is cord wrapped in od paracord I am borrowing these pics from tinkers site again..

my sword is exact except different color para cord. ALSO HAS A VERY NICE LEATHER SCABBARD
