If there is, that saber belongs to it. While I generally ascribe to the theory that form should follow function, there is no reason that it should be ugly to do so.
Maybe not so elegant, but I sure would like to handle one. Where did you see it, is it available, and where can I go look?
While not a "horseback blade" (or maybe it is), this could be a lot of fun in the vein of Robert Adams HORSECLANS, or even the blade describe by Heinlein in THE GLORY ROAD
The Glory Road did mention an alive feel when the hero went to pick it out didn't it. Funny you should bring that up. Of course we all know better, don't we?
Actually, Rusty, I have been looking for the perfect "sabre" for a number of years. I have always wanted something that could be used as a personal weapon vs. from horseback, somewhat as described by Heinlein in the Glory Road. The closest I have come (and it wasn't so close) was the Ladies Sabre that MRL was producing around 1986-87. It had a 32 or 34 inch "pen quill" blade, steel furniture, and weighed less than two pounds!! Unfortunately, I was recently unemployed, so never got to purchase anything from MRL in those 1980s Golden Years.
I have actually contacted Hank Reinhardt personally (very nice man), and he said, in so many words, "..good luck..". Anyone out there have one they want to sell?
I had wanted a match set of these sabres made from Tinker...So I talked with Vince at bladeart.com a long time ago and placed the order but what came in was the one above...not my style...so they still know that this is what I am looking for but now gotta wait till after the 4 shows comming up...something about this sabre is just right...pure function at its best I think.
