I was contemplating my next SAK purchase when I came across something interesting. . .the Victorinox Tinker and Spartan models both appear to have exactly the same features. Am I missing something? Why would they make the same knife with different names?

Edit: Nevermind, I see it now. Spartan's got a corkscrew. I are smart.

LOVE the corkscrew ...... add in one of those little eyeglass screwdrivers and you've got an extra tool. Plus, the little screwdriver on the can opener functions quite nicely as a Philips head, negating the need for that. I also like to replace the large sized key ring with a smaller one like they have on the Classics. YMMV.

The Spartan is a 91 mm knife, the Tinker is available in both 91 mm and 84 mm size. As mnblade said the litte screwdriver on the can opener/combo tool can serve very well as a phillips screwdriver.

You can also get the Spartan in 84mm - it's called the Tourist. It's my favorite 84mm model!

I have both. I first thought the Tinker was more practical because I don't drink wine. But once I discovered the small eyeglass screwdriver that can be bought separately, I started to lean toward the Spartan. (I wear glasses.) I am currently interested in learning more about wine so I am leaning even more towards the Spartan. Both are great. If you've got a lot of phillips screws to tend to get the Tinker.

Get a Spartan Lite. You'll have both functions of Tinker and Spartan (corkscrew and real phillips driver), plus the LED! It's 3 layers though, but I found it comfortable, Have been my EDC since. I like the feel of the handle in my palm.;)

Where do you get batteries for the light? I picked one up on sale, and am looking for spares. I like the phillips screwdriver design and having the glasses driver in the corkscrew without going too thick for comfort.

I think you can get batteries from swissknifeshop.com or swiss-knife.com. I have not seen the batteries but they might also be available from Radio Shack.

I just bought three of them on Ebay from a seller named Davemack@aol.com. I believe he has more of them.
