Found myself bored this afternoon, so I started tinkering. I said to myself, "Self, why not fiddle with the Jag?"

Took it upon myself to:
1) Replace pins in a BM42 kinda way - screws rather than nails.
2) Create latchgate. A challenge, as they're not skeletonized handles.
3) Do some file work.

The progress so far:
1) Old pins out, but couldn't find a suitable size screw to replace them with. At least, not today - I guess I'll actually have to go out & look tomorrow.
2) Completed latchgate. Took some filing, some drilling, took an old guitar string. Won't last long, as I didn't have any particularly strong adhesives (or liquid weld or liquid metal) lying around to play with.
3) Measured & marked file points on blade, but none of my files will cut the steel. I have one or two that I'm sure will cut it, but they're way too big, they'll wreck the blade (or me) in the process. Any suggestions there?

Seems I just can't leave anything be - I've tinkered with everything. Also, figured it's 'only a Jag', I won't burst into tears if I hurt it. (But if those vice-grips slip while I'm filing ...)

Just thought I 'd share ...

This might help. Maybe you could modify it so it works for a screw. Good luck!

Progress:

Handle mod complete - drilled out holes to 1/8", countersunk, tapped. Used #6 machine screws, cut & filed to length, flattened all threads with file, except for last 1/3 of altered screw. Tin tape (metal muffler tape) wrapped once around flattened threads.

Looks as though the screw experiment is a success - they do tighten the gap up, so I can set it as loose or as tight as I want. Woohoo!

Need to sharpen the drill bit to cut into the surgical stainless blade (damn but that stuff is hard) to open pin holes, then knife will be ready for re-assembly. Again - Woohoo!

Filework still going. Probably not going to be worth the trouble, but I can't stop now!

Will try & post pic(s) when complete.

NaTe: thanks, I've read that here before.

Next project: using 'old' circuit board for inserts?

"damn but that stuff is hard"

Hecks yeah it is, I ruined a nice bit widening the hole in the blade of my jag.
