I need a very small allen wrench to fit the screw on the scales of my Al Mar SERE2K. One of te buggers backed out a bit under some hard use

and I need to torque it back into place. Anyone have the size of those screws? And where to get such a small wrench. It appears to be one size smaller than commonly available. Many thanks.

I haven't handled the knife, but be very careful with these small screws. It may not be allan, but torx. There's a big difference. You could strip the screw easily. My guess is they are torx. Any Sears stocks small torx drivers. A set of these should be in the inventory of every knife-person. If it' allen, any hardware store can help you. Good luck.

It's an allen screw alright. I for one would also like to know the size of this screw for future use maybe.

Hello fellow SERE fans! Just went down to my workbench to make sure, you need a torx bit to remove the handle scales. It is a size T-5 and it fits right in the hole. You might be able to use an allen wrench ( I did before I figured out it was a torx ) but you may ruin the screw by wallowing out the head! I think a well stocked Sears will have the T-5. I ordered mine from www.Whiatools.com

....I've had trouble with the tiny allen head screws on my Kershaw Boa, and after a long search, I've found them to be a 1.27mm allen size which is the next size lower next to the 1.5mm.The allen wrenchs in the U.S. only go down to 1.5mm, which is to large, also the standard size does'nt go far enough down even for a mis-fit to just try to snug it alittle, before it's lost altogether.Which is'nt a good idea. I bought a cheap Korean allen wrench set at an auction and found all this out, because the littlest allen wrench was 1.27mm. I've tried all the places also Radio Shack, Napa, electronic stores, tool stores, computer stores, and on, and on with no luck. I hoped I helped, Good luckand if you find a good source, Please Post it. .......Ironhorse......

I also have tiny allen screws on my Deiter auto. I had to tighten up the belt clip and found that it took a .050 allen wrench. I had one in a set I bought at a local hardware store years ago. It was made by CAL-VAN Tools INC. The case doesn't have an address on it though. Hope this helps.

Ahh... many thanks. I could have sworn it was an allen key hole, but if Art says torx on the SERE, its torx. Thanks again guys.

The bad part is that I am a school teacher and I can't spell. My kids at school have to correct me sometimes! I wondered why I couldn't get that site up.

For a handy torx set, go to the top of this page and click on "STORE". Then click on Benchmade, and scroll down to the bottom of the page. There's a pocket torx tool kit there for $9.99. Do not look at any other knives while on that site. You know that you don't have any will power, and you will just get into trouble.
