Choose you favorite stuff on a knife.
Tip up or tip down?
liner, compression, frame, back lock or axis?
Flat, hollow, saber or chisel grind?
VG-10, BG-42, S30-v, ZDP-189, 440v, 154cm, 440c, or in steel?
Carbon fiber, G-10, micarta, aluminum, SS or FRN handles?
Spyderco hole or thumb stud?

For me, the tip up/tip down thing is not all that important. I am a big fan of frame locks, liner locks and Axis locks though. I also strongly prefer the hole to any type of stud or wheel. I really like VG-10 but S30-v is pretty good stuff as well. I am a flat grind lover. I think the carbon fiber is worth the extra money.

So I would like a tip down, S-30v, carbon fiber, frame lock with the Spyderco hole. I do have a knife that comes close. The CF Military from SPyderco. It is CF, BG-42, tip down, liner lock.

Clip: Clipless
Lock: Spyderco style Lockback, Compression Lock or Slipjoint
Opening: Hole or nail nick
Blade Grind: Full flat or Scandi style with no micro bevel
Blade Steel: Don't care about what steel it is as long as the heat treat is done well. For instance, SAK steel is one of my favorites. So is the Byrd steel.
Handles: G10 or wood.

tip orientation not a big deal
axis and lockback
full flat or hollow on a typical folder
tiny carbide steel
non-aluminum handles, and no rubber inserts
slight nod to thumbstuds

tip down, unless waved or a sebenza (i can overlook tip up for crk)
disc, then stud, then hole.

To me, tip orientation is somewhat important...I like tip down. Although, the smaller the knife, the less difference it makes to me.

If I can't have an Axis, give me a liner or frame lock. Lockback's are nice and pretty solid, but I don;t like to have to reposition the knife in my hand in order to close them... a minor inconvenience.

I really like the wheel-stud opener - my thumb grabs it well without slipping, but most of my preference may be because my EDC has a wheel-stud and I'm used to it.

Tip position doesnt really matter, Both are fine to me.
I like a Titanium handle or G10
Axis locks are my fav
As far as blade material id have to say i like s30v
I like the hole for opening

i dont carry tip down knives anymore, not ever, all tip up. i have a lot of tip downs but i never carry them.

hole or peg or wafer i dont care on that.

waved is nice.

I dont care too much about the direction of the tip. I do like the Axis-type or lockback folders, and prefer some type of metal handle (not real crazy about g10 or FRN). Steel isn't as important to me, but I have been appreciating D2 and 52100 more and more.

Tip-up is my usual preferance, although I still do carry several tip-down knives every so often. Axis lock is my favorite, liner/frame lock second. G10 handles over FRN or metal handles. No real preferance on thumb stud/disk/hole, I'm used to all of them (especially irrelevant with the axis lock).

Tip up or tip down?-Either
liner, compression, frame, back lock or axis?-Axis
Flat, hollow, saber or chisel grind?-Flat or Saber
VG-10, BG-42, S30-v, ZDP-189, 440v, 154cm, 440c, or in steel?D2, M2 If I have to go from the list, VG-10 or BG42
Carbon fiber, G-10, micarta, aluminum, SS or FRN handles?Carbon Fiber, G10, Aluminum, Titanium
Spyderco hole or thumb stud? Hole

a 710 with a hole in M2 would be the cat's ass

Tip up, but if I love the knife I will take tip down.
back lock, but compression, ball and frame are OK
Full flat
VG-10, BG-42, S30-v, ZDP-189 are prefered. 154CM, 440C are also acceptable.
G-10 prefered for user;wood, other natural material and micarta prefered for dress up knives.
Spyderhole.

More used to tip-down, but tip-up is fine too
Nice grippy thumbstud like my gerber, with some type of jimping along spine (eg: Native or Junglee Sahara Jr.)
liner-lock
g-10 scales
Haven't put that many steels through their paces, but AUS8 has always proven a tough beater steel, and 1095 takes a screamer edge. Not a huge fan of S30V at this point as it seems to chip too easily and I always worry about it with my Native. VG-10 and that 8Cr13MoV from the Byrd line are supposed to do real well though.
Saber-flat ground is OK, as long as the spine isn't too predominate. I like a good solid drop or light clip point, swedge can make-or-break it depending on how aggressive the swedge grind is (just a hint is good enough)

-Tip Up, but it's not absolutely mandatory.

-Axis lock, lockback, frame lock, in that order. I'm interested in button locks.

-Flat grind, hollow grind and saber grind are tied for 2nd.

-D2 or well heat-treated carbon steels (1095, etc). After that, any higher quality stainless, again as long as it's properly heated, such as VG-10, S30V, etc. If the price is right, I'll go for AUS 8 or 440C.

-Micarta, G-10, carbon fiber, nice woods. The first 2 are preferred for heavy users, the second 2 are preferred for dressier knives.

-Thumbstud, definitely. However, once I (finally!) get a Spyderco, I'll give the Spyderhole a try, too. I prefer either to a nail nick or nothing at all.

Give me the following and I'll be happy;

tip up

deep carry clip

framelock, axis lock, or a liner lock that thinks it is a framelock

flat or hollow, not a big issue, except for chisel grind and that is a no-no

S30V, D2, 154CM, as long as the heat treat is right, the blade will be right

micarta, G-10, wood..........usually in that order

thumbstud, or disc
