Tip Down???

So do I. Dropped in my pocket, it doesn't really matter. But when I carry clipped,it's most often IWB and I really prefer TD for that.

I always figured that if the knife ever opened in my pocket, not very likely unless it's an AO I know, but if it every did tip down would seem better than tip up.

I have no particular preference and it isn't a deal breaker with me either. I think tip down is a faster deployment for me though.

I used to not care... until my kershaw lahar came open in my pocket and gave me a good jab in the leg when I had the clip configured for tip up. I immediately switched it around and added tip down to my prefs.

I very much dislike tip down if carring in right front pocket.

Esp on my PARA, it is very rough and catches on my hand when reaching in pocket. Thats the only thing that keeps me from giving it some pocket time. The black clip doesn't look good on my FG D2 PARA anyway so I plan to send it off for a tip up clip change. I'll send the Military I use with it also.

The ones that get Front pocket time are my large and small sebbie and CF Caly3. My hand just slide's right in my pocket across the spine of those. For now I keep my reg Military in back pocket when I carry it.

Ken---Maybe a deep pocket tip down clip would be the answer??

No, never a tip down for me,lol. Tip up and I think a bead blasted(grayish) clip will look great on the FG scales:thumbup: I'll send it off soon.

Did you get yours yet? If not, you'll love it. If so, I know you already love it.
The PARA is one of my favorites for sure.

I'm more comfortable carrying an assisted opener tip down. Had a close call with a tip up Leek once, could have been bad. Otherwise it depends on the shape of the knife, how it feels when your hand goes in pocket, how it carrys, are there any places that catch your hand, etc.

having spydies converted me to tip down pretty much exclusively. when i pull a spydie out of my pocket tip down my thumb is practically right on the hole and the rest of my hand is essentially right where it needs to be

bingo!

I never liked TD until I got my millie, still not a big fan but with some knives it just works better. I think the millie is about the only knife I could say I would never want any other way, it seem as though it was designed with perfect eurgonomics for TD carry and diployment.

Tip down is my preferred method of carry for work knives (para, millie, manix, endura, delica, etc). I think it's more reliable, less likely to open up in my pocket, and normally easier to grab with gloves on. That half inch "tab" on the military is a godsend when wearing welding gloves.

For dress/office type knives, I still prefer tip down (JD Smith, Leek, Mcusta), but I do find a lot of knives I love (Sage II, Caly3/CF) in tip up configuration. Doesn't bother me for office work.

The problem I find with a lot of tip up clips tend to bury the knife in my pocket. I tend to fumble a bit if I'm in an awkward position or have something on my hands.

For those who think carrying tip up knives against the seam makes them not open, I once had my Caly3/CF/ZDP-189 open in my pocket (still no idea how). I drew it out and exposed tip snagged low in my pocket and acted like a wave feature. Sliced a nice flap out of my pants.

I've had a Para open up partially inside my pocket. It possibly got jarred loose from running. The tip, pointed directly at my thigh, poked my pocket up as my legs rose and fell while walking. There was no penetration beyond the fabric of my pocket but fortunately I noticed it before sitting down or bending over. The knife has since been banished to my backpack as a spare. A tip-up would have to rotate 180 degrees to start poking your leg. The moral of the story is that I don't think either method is inherently safer; if it was really a concern than one would carry slipjoints.

I think tip-up is barely easier to grab from your pocket at best. The real benefit is that the clip is less intrusive when you're actually holding the knife. I grasp knives mostly with my index and middle fingers and don't like the feel of three clip screws under that hold.

I cannot agree more! When you pull the knife out it's already set to open the knife with your thumb.

That being said I like tip down for jeans and tip up for shorts.

It justs seems to work better.

When I'm wearing my jeans the knife is positioned almost perfectly vertical which works great for tip down.
When I use tip down wearing shorts the knife is more slanted. Not vertical so when I pull out the knife you have to manipulate it a bit to get a grip and use the spydie hole.

Also I don't mind the knife sticking up (due to tip down) when wearing jeans since my shirt covers over it. But when I wear shorts the knife is positioned wear my shirt won't cover it.

Just my two cents
