Here's one I just figured out about a half hour ago. If you use a panavice or other plastic jawed vice to hold your blades for finishing, clean the jaws and sand them smooth from time to time. It sucks to clamp a blade in to fix "just a little rough spot" and have to repolish cause epoxy or dirt in the jaws scratched something.

I love my country! I just don't trust my government!

i also use leather, i scatched a blade with a chisel that i was using as a detail sander after i finshed to 220grt.

I never clamp a blade in anything, and I mean ANYTHING, even a brand new piece of leather, without first applying at least one layer of of masking tape. The low tack stuff, 2" wide, is easy and cheap to work with, and a new length off the roll just cannot have any grit embedded in it. I can't say that about anything else in my shop, including my fingers.
