tip strength on Lil Temp

Haven't got one to actually look at - what would your take be on the tip strength of the Lil Temperance? I pry with my knives so this is a big deal for me. How does it compare to the tip on a ATR (which is stout enough for my EDU)?

Stick with the ATR. The tip on the Lil' T tapers down fairly thin, and would likely snap right off if you use it for a crowbar.

Based on the versions i've handled, the Trailing Point Lil'Temperance has a slightly finer point than the Ti ATR.

Personally, i wouldn't pry with either.

Ditto. I have owned about 1/2 dozen over the past couple years and EDC'd a few of em.... They are not the best prying tools, for sure..... and even a bit thick for slicing... That said it was my favorite design put out by spyderco, until i got a para mili...

What do you pry by the way.... I have used knives too pry to , so im not giving you crap, just wondering... For me it was staples out of wood furniture.... But i never really pried as much as i would turn the spine of the blade against the staple to pry it out... Am i getting anywhere with this...:D:confused:

The most common prying task for me is prying magnetic contacts out of doorframes to test/replace 'em. Prying covers off of motion detectors or camera domes out of fittings , etc.Sometimes magnets out of the doors too ( carpenters get trully pissed when they find one of these with their plannar tool the hard way). Frankly - in 50 years of knife use - I've only averaged a tip break about every 6 or 7 years - but there is no reason for me to abuse a tool that clearly wasn't designed for the use I will give it.

A---You need to get a "prySTR" and pry with that tool. Save the knife for cutting or piercing.

You can even break the tip on a tool that is made for prying. I would expect that one which is made for cutting - not prying - will break more readily. The (now discontinued) Lum Tanto folder had the sturdiest tip I've seen on a Spyderco. However, I'd still prefer to use the flat screwdriver tool on my Victorinox Soldier before I'd use any knife blade tip for prying. Maybe adding a Prybaby to your pocket would work better?

4ster---The prySTR is a solid piece of titanium. Anything can be broken, that is true, but did you ever use one of these? It would be Very hard to break.

There is prying and then there is prying. Having both, I would consider the tip on the Lil' T stronger than that of the Manix. I would not say that it is a weak tip, but the blade has a distal taper and there certainly stronger tips out there (on the new Salts/Enduras for example). It also depends how deeply you insert the knife to pry. Due to the distal taper, the 4mm blade and the leaf profile the blade of the Lil'T has about the same thickness and greater width than the Endura/Pacific blade about 0.75" back from the tip.

used my Captain to pry the stub of the the gas cap holder out of the fitting on my POS Saturn LW-300. worked fine
