Tip up or Tip down folder carry ?

I like tip up with the knife near the back seam of my front pocket. A good strong clip will keep the knife in position so the blade has nowhere to open while in the pocket. YMMV.

X2 Ball detents that most folders have and any lockback will keep the blade closed as well. I carry tip-up because I've found that its simply more natural; its like drawing a knife from a sheath. Furthermore, when one inserts the thumb in to grasp the knife its already positioned near the stud/hole/button: no changing grips. You can't use a wave tip down either:cool:

I am ok with either but if its tip up I switch the clip so that the blade rides against the back of my pocket. Ive had several cuts that ran the length of my pinky before I switched to this method.

I like tip down. When I pull the knife from my pocket, my thumb is automatically next to the Spyder hole, making it fast and easy to open the knife without adjusting to a new grip.

A few years ago, I was stabbed on the tip of my thumb by a tip-up Ti-Lite that had partically opened somehow. Felt like a mouse trap had snapped on my thumb.

But the key is to stick to the same system. Once your muscle memory is set, it doesn't make much difference what style you use. Typing keyboards were designed with a scattered letter placement to make it difficult to type, but we adjust. However, if you change knives a lot, your muscle memory goes out the window. And in an emergency, you do better what you muscles are really, really familiar with. If you have to draw an unfamiliar knife under stress, you'll probably fumble it.

Its just personal preference. Tip up for thumbstuds and tip down for spydie holes. so i can spyderdrop it easier, for me.

+1
Had always avoided tip up until a nice lady who owned an awesome knife shop in Las Vegas showed me how she carries her Griptilian. I've carried this way ever since.

Tip down. Preference.

But that didn't stop me from picking up a SuperHawk and Caly3/CF. :D
