Tip up or Tip down?

I prefer tip up carry. Like it has been said before, when you pull the knife out of your pocket, your hand is naturally in a position to deploy the blade. When I pull the knife out of my pocket, I insert my thumb into the pocket itself while my fingers remain outside around the pocket clip. Once the knife is slid out of the pocket I can open it immediately, as my thumb has been positioned over the thumbstud/spyderhole simply by the action of pulling the knife out.

If the knife is tip down, you have to rotate the knife 90 degrees backwards into your palm before you have a surface to oppose the force deploying the knife.

I've heard arguments that tip down is more secure than tip up for blade retention. However, if you carry a tip up knife as far back as possible against the corner of your pocket, then the knife can't open in your pocket.

My viewpoint and manner of carry as well. Tip up just feels right to me and with the knife riding at the back of my front pocket... the blade is against the back corner of the pocket, preventing it from opening. My hand enters the pocket in front of the knife whereas the blade is on the other side of the knife. No worries on my part.

I can go either way. Depends on the knife. Some I would have liked to worn tip up
but there is way too much scale for me sticking out of pocket. Either way though is
fine. Most I have set up for tip up though. :)

Tip up. It is faster and more natural for me for all the reasons previously mentioned.

Plus I can add a wave and the knife is already open when I take it out of my pocket. The fastest way to open a knife and much faster than tip down. Or assisted opening. Or an automatic.

It depends on the knife, in my experience. I tend to use tip down more, due to carrying a military or a para more often than not. My only real gripe about that, is on spydercos with a more pronounced thumb ramp, where the ramp is prone to obstructing my hand when reaching into my pockets
