Tip Up or Tip Down?

I use both ways actually. My 3" flipper is tip up because I have a lanyard on it and when clipped to my pocket, the lanyard lays better............My 3.5"'s on the other hand, due to the contour of my right front pockets where I clip them and since the knife lays better this way, I carry them tip down.

Maybe down the road I will change, but for now, this is what works best for me.

I must say that I am a Big CRK fan ( I am sure you guys know that already...lol ) and his are all tip up. I guess I never understood the great debate: Tip Up or Tip Down. I think different knives carry different ways and what works great for one, doesnt work so well for the other. I am quite comfortable carrying my knives tip up or tip down depending on how it feels......in my pocket and in hand when I pull it out !

My 2 cents

I would really appreciate if Rick would chime in and help give some insight why all of his knives arrived with tip down config.

I'd guess because at the end of the day, tip down is a safer carry for his knives which in my limited experience don't have a super strong detent. I don't have a custom so they may be perfect but two Gen 3 XM's have had the tendency, once broken in, to make the detent a factor. Feel the weight of the blades for gosh sakes.

I still carry tip up though and have my pivot pretty darn tight with the rear of my carry pocket against the spine for insurance against accidental opening.

In the world of lightning fast decision making, where life and death are in the balance - (Fire Fighting, EMS, Police, Soldiers etc.) tip down is probably the best insurance against grabbing a handful of razor sharp blade.

Just a hunch - don't stone me. :)

Tip down for me too. I am not sure why. I have carried both ways. I guess they came tip down and that is how I started carrying them.

I have both a 3" custom non flipper and a 3.5" production flipper. For the nonflip I guess I can try tip down and see how that goes. As for the 3'5 I guess it's hard for me to justify carrying with so much mass protruding outta pocket And the flipper/guard grinding against your pocket and leaving a gap between your knife and end seams of the pocket.
