Tip up/Tip down carry

So, once you've got the knife opened, you're standing there holding the spine of the blade? I don't understand what good that is...

no
once you have the knife open, you use it for whatever purpose you opened it for

I prefer as a rule tip up, again, unless I am carrying higher up on my person. then I find tip down easier to orient the knife and open it fluidly upon drawing it.

I think each have their own benefits, and it does depend on the person carrying the knife. I would not poo poo a knife solely based on the clip location either. However, I see more and more knives with holes drilled to accomodate both tip up and tip down carry AND left or right hand carry. That is a lot of holes, and some think it takes away from the aesthetics of the knife but it is undeniably versatile.

Tip down for knives that "wave" open, tip up for thumbstuds. When you draw the knife, having the thumb stud at the opposite end of the knife from the end you're grabbing seems defeating to me. But since most knives seem to be designed for tip down, I'm guessing the majority don't see it that way.

I have to agree that is the way to go. I've never tried the spyderhole drop (just tried it with my Meerkat, didn't work; gotta wait until my Endura gets back) so I can say I currently prefer tip up with them ... I guess I'll have to wait and see :)
