Haven't been able to find a previous poll on this.

Which carry method do you prefer. Tip up, tip down, or no clip at all. :)

Clipless.

Larger knives in belt pouch, medium and small knives in bottom of pocket.

I've read of too many clipped knives that were lost to jeopardize an Sng or Sebenza that way.

dan :)

Tip up for smaller knifes or knives with really deep carry.

Clipless for bigger knives. I don't like the way they stick out of the pocket. I've never had a knife that didn't hook super secure onto my jeans though... I don't really understand how one could end up getting wrenched off.

Tip-down, clip-less, or belt holster. A lot depends on the style of the clip. If it rides high or is too funky shaped, I'll take the clip off and put it in a pocket or find a holster. Ideally, its a 4 way pocket clip that doesn't show much outside the pocket and I'll wear it tip-down.

You don't have an option for "it depends"! :p

Seriously, for small to medium knives (up to 3.0-3.5 inches) I don't particulary care. In that range the main advantage of the clip is just to get the knife up out of the rest of the clutter in my pocket, and I'm trying to cut down on that!

Larger folders, I do prefer to carry with a clip or in a belt sheath.

As far as "tip up" or "tip down" its not something that ever really mattered to me. To tell the truth I could not tell you if my three or four favorite clip folders are "up" or "down" without pulling them all out and looking at them.

Tip up. It really improves my grip on a knife for some reason. I went for a period where I HATED clips but then I started taking the clips off of knives and realized that makers know what they are doing.

I wouldnt make my military tip up though.

I dont let those things bother me. i carry a screwdriver in my pocket half the time. i wont let clip position stop me from carrying a pocket knife.

It doesn't really matter to me. A knife with the clip in only one position isn't a turn-off for me, although I do find myself switching the clips to tip-up whenever possible.

Tip up, but in most cases it doesn't matter because I keep it deep in pocket. I don't remove the clip simply because I like the option of clipping it when necessary.

This summarizes what I was about to type

I prefer tip down. Being that I don't have monstrous mitts, when I pull a tip up knife from the pocket I usually have to reposition my hand to get to the stud/hole. With tip down I don't have to dig my hand down as deep, just need to grab the pivot and kinda rotate it out and my hand falls nicely into place to deploy the blade.

I prefer tip up if I'm carrying a knife with a clip. I most often carry a slippy though so no clip for me!

until prompted, i have had no preference... but i tend not to use the pocket clip anyway ... i live in the uk and its a bit of an unnecessary advert!!! but my current top blade is a tip up type an i nearly skewered my nuts, pulling it out my pocket this way while trimming garden twine... perhaps i'll remove the clip???

During the week in an office situation I typically remove the clips as they get caught in the loose threads inside the pocket.

At night and during the weekend I use the clips with casual clothes.
