I finally had my first REAL knife order this week. Other than friends, and coworkers. But its a nice big 12" camp style chopper. Not sure the real style of it but. Anyways. I'm not sure how I should go about heat treating.
Its 1084. And my HT process I got down pretty well. But should I do it differently with this? The buyer says he will be chopping small wood, and other things where he may be a little rough with it.
Should I do a differential heat treat? Maybe go for lower RC?

I have a mid size chopper that I made in 1084. I austentized at 1500 and tempered twice at 425. I think it gives a good compromise in edge holding. After tempering the blade you can always draw back the temper on the spine with a torch. Just keep the edge in water while you do that so you don't ruin the temper on the edge.
