So as it says above.. i need tips on how a can stop myself from buying more knives. I most definitely have not lost my LOVE!! for knives, its just... well "THE WIFE", she is either going to A- kill me or B- well.. KILL ME. She says i can buy 1 new knife a year but i have already bought 3 and its not even February!!! The best answer to my question will hopefully involve me still getting more then 1 knife a year  if you know what i mean ;) Please HELP ME!!! I can't be the only one!!
THANKS
CHEERS!

As hard as it is, I find that if I can sell some of the ones I don't use it can justify buying more with my wife. Of course I "might" buy a few more than I sell.... ;)

Buy more shoes (female) and purses at the same time, so they arrive when the new knives do. Should help to offset the new purchases!

I feel your pain, but asking for advice on not buying knives from knife nuts on a knife forum. If you manage it let me know lol

My own rule is: Once I sell "blank", then I can buy "blank". I always make sure to sell a knife first that perhaps is not getting any use or carry time, in order to purchase another one that I have my eye on. Doing this, I have always kept my stock to <10. I currently just found two that I love to carry most, so I sold about 5 that we just sitting collecting dust. I also have kept track of what exactly I have spent on knives, so having that grand total to refer to keeps $ in perspective.

One knife a year!? Tell her you would rather have one wife a year. ;) (jk)

A quid pro quo arrangement sounds fair to me.

Had/have the same problem. I find it easy to fall into the "new knife fever" and neglect past purchases. I'm resting on pure will-power at the moment not to order another Emerson.

My advice: take a break from the forums for however long it takes. Less temptation. I did this and really looked at my collection during that time and found what I carried the most and what was just "nice to have".

I sold/traded all the ones I didn't carry as much (nearly all my spydercos). Now if i'm tempted to make a new purchase i ask myself if this is something I'm going to use. The monkey on my back will say yes, without a doubt, but it always will. Be stronger than the monkey.

I was doing the same thing! Found out about knife collecting in August 2012 and bought probably 59 knives since. Sold a bunch and down to about 31 with about 8 more to sell. Started at $40 knives and progressed to semi to customs. Then, I really came to terms that it is not the quantity but quality of a collection. It is better to have a few nice ones than a bunch. Maybe, have a jar or separate account that each month you toss in x amount of dollars than go from there. Another idea my member friend does, has certain amount in knife fund, buys and sells from that account ONLY. No matter what comes up on the "for sale" forum, if you don't have it in the piggy then oh well! Trust me I used to dream about having a fleet of rides for years (motorcycles and cars), now I do and trying to sell a bunch, more headaches than enjoyment. Same thing applies to knives. I decided to own only one example of each knife maker I like, just my thoughts. Good Luck!

Look at your whole knife collection and when you think your crazy , buy one more.

I don't think this is the best place to be asking. :p

I imagine that someone who has successfully stopped his knife purchases, would likely cease to frequent this forum -- temptation and all.

Tell her your stopping cold turkey from going to the opera and your weekly manicures and pedicures. You are will using 80% of that savings to buy knives and the other 20% goes into a wife fund. Tell her it's a win-win situation for both of you.

She should be so moved by the gesture it won't dawn on her that you don't go to the opera or get mani and pedis.

I do exactly this. I find I buy something I have interest in, and if I don't immediately fall in love with it I'll let it go. If I notice that something is just sitting on my shelf unused then I'll let it go. Over the past few years I bought more knives than I can even count, but my total collection right now is only about 10 knives. You may also want to consider saving up and getting a "nicer" / more expensive knife as your "one" purchase to hold you over for a while, instead of buying a bunch of knifes that are <$50 each.

There's probably a logical reason why "wife" rhymes with "knife"..... We love them both, and they can both kill you!

To be honest I don't worry about if I can afford a knife it's "how long do I have to save" I write down a list of 12 knives that you realy want Start with a expensive knife a cheaper knife a expe....ect and if you can control yourself buy one a month and treat yourself.

What I do is I sell a knife to buy another knife. I'd be in deep financial trouble if I kept every single knife I've bought in the past 2 years.

Oh it's easy, Here's 4 simple steps.

1. Start by going to the top of the right hand corner.
2. Press Log Out
3. Turn off the Computer
4. Enjoy Life :D

Well how many knives do you have? Do you really need that many knives? Thats what I do, it has slowed my knife buying down.
