I have this stuff called Goo-Gone that works wonders. WD40 does well too.

Goo Gone is great stuff it works as good as Zippo fluid but smells like oranges

Windex always worked for me.

That's my 'one-two punch' for sticky/messy stuff on blades. I haven't found (yet) anything sticky that won't be softened/removed by the Goo-Gone. Some things take a little longer to soften up, than others, but it still works. And once the sticky stuff is off the blade, I've used a little Windex to clean up the oily residue left by the Goo-Gone. Never felt the need to do it any other way, though a lot of petroleum-based or alcohol/acetone-based solvents will also work.

Acetone is great stuff. Just don't let it get on plastic.

Even if if's dried on, a couple of drops of tuf-glide does the trick.

Goo Gone works great...we always have a big bottle handy for goo of all kinds

WD-40, kerosene, or gasoline.
