I'm going to be moving in a few weeks and was wondering if any of you guys could share any do's or don'ts for moving a hardness tester. Should I move it in an unloaded state or remove the diamond and load it with a block of wood on the anvil? Any knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Darrin, On my old digital hardness test it had a access door on the back of it. Here is where you could remove the counter weights so they did not get damaged while moving it.

If you know the make and model number, look up the manual and see if they have any shipping / transit screws to hold things in place during shipping.

Lots of equipment is make with screws for that.

Always a good idea to call the manufacturer to get their recommendations. If the manufacture is still around.

Its a Grizzly and I was planning on calling them Monday but just wanted to see if some people whom may have actually moved one had any input. Thanks guys.

Darrin - do you still have the shipping blocks it came with when new? When I unpacked my Grizzly tester I tossed the shipping blocks back into storage (if I can find them now) to use if I ever need them. Do you have the manual? Since Grizzly doesn't seem to have the manual on-line, if you need I can see if I can take photos of any shipping info in manual for you.

BTW, were you ever able to contact Cap'n Ron?
