I'm just curious if anyone has noticed the tips of their throwing knives heating up (warm to almost hot to the touch) from throwing. If so, is this because of the friction into the target? Energy dump? What's up?

Sure, entering the target (usually wood ) and pulling out both create a lot of friction. I have handled bullets that "emerged" from an old tree trunk I was shooting at, quite hot!
Speaking of warming up, I find I have to change my distance as I warm up. I'll find a good throwing distance, then, as the old shoulder warms up and I get a bit "looser", I find I have to move back a bit.

Yea Ive noticed that. Especially when throwing half turns to warm up. At half turns my rate of throwing is rather quick and they can get get pretty warm.
