Tired of Tacticals at Least Big Ones

I've moved away from "tactical" towards "utility". My large Mayo TNT hasn't drawn any negative comments, and I carry it every day at work. The only folder which has raised eyebrows was an MT DA-Socom, but I was pretty much expecting the response I got. (Sheeple are fun to play with

I find that these days I carry the TNT when I'm away from the house and custom fixed blades when I'm home (working outside or in the shop). The neighbors may stare when I'm weed-wacking wearing the Lamey hunter or a Dozier KS-5, but that's OK. This summer when MI passes the concealed carry law I'll be out there wearing a 1911 in my new Sparks IWB holster. Milt didn't name it the Summer Special for nothin!
I do keep a CQC7 by the bed (next to a Surefire 6P and the 1911) but that's about as "tactical" as it gets.

I'm with you on this one, Anthony. Legal considerations force me to go with a blade length of less than 3". It always amazes me how many manufacturers make blade lengths of 3 1/16", or just barely over 3", as if intent on making them illegal in many jurisdictions.

You got a point there JK, it would be just as easy to make a knife 2.9" or 3.0 as it is to make a knife 3 1/8 or 3 1/16. Although I doubt if a knife that size will get you in trouble unless the LEO is already out to get you, it still defeats the purpose of downsizing if the blade is just a smidge over the limit.

Anthony,

Know what you mean by sheeple (married to one). HOWEVER, when we responsibly use larger folders [within the legal limits], we may be able to slowly change the stereotypes many have about those who carry. Think of it as a type of PR.
