Higgy!!! I just started grinding some blades out and I am dicussed.:grumpy: :grumpy: I haven't done anything in months and have screw up a number of blades.:(

Usually there seems to be a large influx of new (young) knife maker hopefulls right around the time there is a movie at the box-office that involves knives.

More power to them. The reality of what it really takes to make a knife vs what is portrayed by the hollyweird seems to weed out most.

no kiddin'....there does seem to be quite an influx...

I used to wonder why none of the more experienced knifemakers answered my questions (back when I first started haunting shoptalk)...now I know...:(....it's tough repeating yourself over and over again...I now see threads and think...oh, I can help them with that...and then lose enthusiasm to bother replying...not that I'm old school already...still paying my dues....but it's tough trying to help someone that doesn't understand why, or doesn't want the right answer, or is unwilling to use the right tools, etc.

And this coming from a part-time college prof who loves to teach...!

Much easier "in person" though...

p.s. there...I've discussed....:p

Its hard enough to show them when they are in my shop but I really have trouble putting everything into words on these forums. My answers are getting fewer and farther apart. I notice some of the "ol timers" are just saying to "hit the search button, its been discussed before"

Can some one tell me if I should buy the Grizzly knife grinder?....that just never gets old....:D

I wonder if the search feature on this forum work worth a sh#t if there would be as many?

sadly that would be nice to have a good working search
i tried the other day about ti pocket clips and that didnt work o well
i try to help ppl but again im not good with words i got alot of good info here and will try to get it sent back out to the ones that try

cant help someone that cant help themselves

the search engine is HORRIBLE, basically it is nonfunctioning, but if you go to google and type your search followed by "site:bladeforums.com" and voila it works :)

Folks who are new to the craft are quite enthusiastic. There is nothing like the rush when you are teaching someone who suddenly "gets it" and their whole face lights up with a burst of joy in the knowing. No, my fine people, I am not disheartened by the influx of new folk, but instead bolstered by the possibility one of them will become another success story, like some of our own here. Surely some of you remember when Brian Goode was a noob here? It was a real gas watching his skills grow. Seeing his knives make it into Blade was only sweet validation of that.

There are no stupid questions, but there are impatient ones. I think questions are good. Who knows? Perhaps someone would ask a question about something that has been asked a thousand times before, yet in that question (or response) maybe a phrase or word would spark up a line of thought that perhaps might lead to a whole new revelation in the world of knives or knifemaking? It could happen!

Hey you big dummy!!! I still am a noob in so many ways its not funny:D

I have been blessed in finding this hobby and blessed to have meat you all when this forum was at one of its peaks. We all respect one another and feel no question is a silly one and pushed eash other to keep making. I amit that I miss the "Old Days" but I still pop in and help out when I can. Having a 1 year old limits my shop and computer time but these damn knives keep me sain in a crazy world fellas:thumbup:

I am not around as much these days but each of you know I am a phone call or email away:D

Time just goes by faster the older we get. Now get out there and make me knife !! :D

He He....see what I mean. You cant read what Mark is saying but he meant to type, Merry Christmas little buddy....or maybe not????:D

One of the reasons my interest in knifemaking grows is due to the SELFLESSNESS of the knifemaking community. That's not to say there isn't a few selfish bastids among us but I haven't met any yet.

Yes, the stupid questions(there ARE stupid questions) are entertaining. I like to watch how long an exceptionally stupid one goes before it gets a response. I sit back and imagine the different kinds of responses you would LIKE to give but restraint(albeit a very thin thread sometimes) keeps you from opening up on a poor unsuspecting noob. By the way, spend some time in the well known knife ID forum for examples of the above senario :)

The nice thing about the "stupid" questions is they have generally been asked before and, YES, the veterans grow weary hearing the same ones time and time again. BUT, sometimes this gives the newer knifemaker/students the opportunity to "give back" some of what we are learning, even if it means pointing someone back to an earlier thread that has helped us and because the search function sucks wind.

Anywho...That's my take on life in Shoptalk.

I really appreciate what Higg said, especially since he has come under tough times as of late.

See, I can be serious even with knives in my head.
