Tis the Season

hey, at one point I was that noob. :D

And I still ask a lot of dumb questions. ;)

The nice thing about the "stupid" questions is they have generally been asked before and, YES, the veterans grow weary hearing the same ones time and time again. BUT, sometimes this gives the newer knifemaker/students the opportunity to "give back" some of what we are learning, even if it means pointing someone back to an earlier thread that has helped us and because the search function sucks wind.

Years ago, (15?) when I moved from Germany to New Hampshire, I had to take a hunter safety course in order to get a hunting license. The class was taught by a couple old geezers, and I can say that it was one of the best weekends I can remember. They illustrated the progression of a hunter's life, which I have pondered ever since. The young hunter is full of energy and vigor when young, and gets his bag limit all the time. He lusts after the sport with great enthusiam. After a while, he gets his fill of it, and while still very proactive, getting his limits never seem to be as important as just being in the woods, or out on the water. In contrast, he older hunter is content to simply sit by the woodstove and chat about hunting, and is genuinely excited over the younger people coming in, and and the tales of their successes. Getting out in the woods is not as important to him now, as is being with his own kind and the fellowship of their company.

I think the same is true for us. I love knives and guns, and fishing and hunting. Its really just about all I am good at now. The good Lord knows, I've botched up everything else! LOL! I doubt that my knifemaking days are over, because you can be sure I will make another when the mood strikes. Meanwhile, I am pretty contented just being here in BF Shoptalk, and hanging with you guys.
