Mike Tison's take on the classic Case Sodbuster Jr. ATS-34, about 3 3/4 inches, stainless pins and liners, blue/black carbon fiber, relieved liners. I had asked Mike about one year ago if he would build me a sodbuster. Delivered on election day but the knife ain't political at all and has no party affiliation.:D Sure is pretty when the light catches that blue.

Nice one, Rob!

Very cool knife. That color CF does have some great effects in the right angle/lighting

Fine lookin' sodbuster Rob! That blue/black carbon fiber catches a lot of light and sure is nice.

I like it as well. It looks like it has a sunk joint? Congrats!
Not quite sunk but almost. The picture is at enough of an angle that it looks like a sunk joint.
This brings up a question. What is the term for that part of the tang that sticks out on a knife without a sunk joint?
I think I heard it called "run up" once. It has to have a name. Whenever I want to mention it I don't know what to say.
Like in this case I could have said. "Nah Mike, it ain't a sunk joint there is a small bit of a ????":D

Not much of a Sodbuster toter, but will have to give that one   .

Rob, the CF will make you look all tacticool and stuff ! :D

Nice knife Rob! It's cool seeing that high-tech material (steel AND handle) on a traditional pattern.
To further the "P.E.T." discussion, here's an image from Adrian Harris' book on Knife Repair.

All right Waynorth! Thanks for that image! I'm going to have to print that one out for my records. "Run up" sounds better to me than "P.E.T". Great illustration. That gives names to some other parts of the blade I didn't know before.

Yes indeed, thanks for the diagram.
I have a knife made by Thomason (no relation) back in 70's that has a huge run up. (I just had to use it in a sentence).

Now, about that diagram, waynorth. If there is a half stop would the "round end" be called a "straight end"? :D

Hey Rob, why don'tcha run up and grab me a beer! ;)
