I am needing to anodize titanium and was wondering what yall are using to do just that? I have looked online at some homemade jobs but they looked hackish and unsafe. I have considered using 9v batteries but it looks wasteful and kind of hit and miss.

Has anyone used their HT oven to produce the oxide?

Stan is it pretty consistent in its operation from piece to piece? That looks more like the kind of unit I am looking for. If I dont need to break the back I wont but I do want professional consistent results.

Works like a champ, repeated results at the same voltage, takes a little experimentation to get the exact colors you want but just write down your voltage and good to go.I have been very happy with mine for 2 years.

Thanks Stan! I will get one on the way. Are you using tsp for your electrolyte solution? Are there any other things needed to go with the unit to use it?

I use a saturated TSP solution, also use a piece of SS H/T foil for the annode,I make my own Ti hangers out of thin pieces of scrap. It comes with the lead wires.

Shane, also a good thing to do is put a piece of plastic mesh between the foil and your work,I got some 1/4" plastic mesh that looks like rabbit wire in my tank,a short at 40-50 volts could get exciting.

lol all kinds of corney puns could come from that! Thanks I will pick up some 1/2 plastic lighting grate from home depot.

Not to counter Stan, because that's a good variable supply, but 9v batteries are cheap and will give a consistent and repeatable anodize. Here's a thread and a color chart you can get with the batteries.

Thanks for the chart but I really did not want to use the 9v's because of the amount of ti I am doing and the need for consistency of the color. If I were doing one or two pieces then yes I believe the 9v would be a good way to go. I also read all of Mr. Titanium's website and almost decided to build a unit rather than purchase one but even in his instructions he makes reference to the the machine being a hack of sorts so I decided then to look for a production model.
