Titanium blade BM-CQC7?????

I recently saw a production BM-Emerson CQC7 being advertised has having a titanium blade..Did BM ever make such a knife. Especially in production?

Yes, Benchmade did produces a Ti bladed production model CQC7.

The exact model was called the 970ST. The knife was very light, and the edge had a reputation for arriving dull and defying anyone to really get it sharp. It was aimed at the work-force that needed a non-sparking, highly corrosion resistant knife. The bevel was really a carbide alloy, I believe. I had two (2) of them, my friends bought them, I replaced them with two (2) Emerson CQC7-B's and I don't miss them one bit.--OKG

Is titanium, or a modified form, a viable blade material at this time? We all know Mission is doing a lot of work with ti bladed knives.

Aside from its anti-magnetic properties, what are its other advantages? How does it compare to other more mainstream exotic steels like BG42, and tool steels -- like D-2 -- in terms of rigidity, strength, and edge-holding?

Only if you've got really special requirements.

It's corrosion proof. It's not near steel in other properties.

It's of course possible to for example make a hard edge of something which is partly titanium.

I think a new wrinkle in this facet of knife technology may actually lie with a metal called 'Scandium.' I read about it in a recent gun magazine. Supposedly it has all of the really good properties of titanium, but it can be alloyed with other metals, and the blend retains those same traits. Of course, will the parameters needed of a gun frame translate into edge retention? Who knows, but for people who need this type of knife, I think technology is about to deliver.--OKG
