i'm a knife cluebie and was wondering why there are no titanium blades on knives. i think i read somewhere that boker had a kitchen knife in the works, but i was thinking along the 'folder' size knives. isn't titanium harder than steel?
Titanium is softer than steel, but it may be able to be alloyed with other elements and heat treated in such a way to make it a practical blade steel. I think in the future we may see some of this.
Look at the latest issue of Blade. There is an article that shows Boker's titanium bladed kitchen knives and hints at the possibility of sporting knives in the future.

Actually the Mission MPF is a knife with a titanium blade. Sometime ago I started a topic where we discussed that knife vs. the Sebenza. You might want to search for that thread
Here are some of the reasons you don't see more ti blades.
Titanium takes a wicked edge, but doesn't hold it.
Titanium eats up tools and is not the easy metal to work with.
Cost. It's not cheap.
Technology is coming along way and you will see more and more Titanium blades in use in the not too distant future. There are actually more knives out there than you might expect. Benchmade had a version of the CQC-7 w/ Titanium blade. Pat Crawford does an excellent job with Titanium. Emerson made a Limited run Titanium La Griffe. Bokers new alloy with sintering powedr metals seems like a big step.
The titanium CQC7 that Benchmade offered had
a layer of tungsten deposited along the edge,
to provide some edge-holding abilities.
That CQC7 model was designed for marine and
extreme high-corrosion environments. Wasn't
some sort of fashion consideration...
Boker seems to be using two different alloys
for their "titanium" knives; the crystalline
one is an aluminum/titanium alloy (their new
Orion folder uses this) that gets the facets
via some sort of oxidation process.. the blue
matte variant is something different...
