Sold! Thanks guys!
I call this knife the Drone. It is primarily designed as a backup or “last ditch” blade that can easily be adapted to different grips and modes of carry. It also makes a nice, lightweight EDC. My goal when creating the Drone was to create a knife that you will actually carry; always. There are a lot of great knife designs around, but they are useless if you leave them at home due to weight considerations.
The Drone is a bit different in that the ring is designed to accommodate the middle or ring finger depending on your preferred grip. The Drone is unique in that it allows the user to maintain a secure grip on the knife, while still allowing full use of your hands. With the Drone in hand, you can still grapple, operate a firearm and manipulate objects in your environment.
In standard grip, the middle finger rests in the ring and the index finger wraps around the choil. The ring finger rests comfortably on the small rear protrusion. (The rear protrusion can be used for light prying.) This makes for an extremely secure grip that allows for excellent control and precision.
In reverse grip, the ring finger rests in the ring and the pinky wraps around the choil. The middle finger rests on the rear protrusion.
The Drone is designed to offer various carry options. The knife can be neck, belt, pocket or static cored carried. Deployment is dependent on mode of carry. The design of the sheath lends itself to most popular carry methods. I see the Drone as an “always” knife; meaning you always carry it. Hopefully you will never need it, but it’s always there.
The Drone features a wharncliffe style blade. Wharncliffe blades excel at slashing and stabbing. The knife handles particularly well in a thrusting “sewing machine” mode. Multiple slashes can be delivered with minimal effort due to the weight and design of the Drone.
The Drone is made from 6AL4V titanium. Titanium was selected to allow the user the greatest possible weight savings, while offering a knife that is impervious to corrosion. Bare titanium is actually fairly soft; not exactly ideal for long term edge retention. This issue is remedied by adding a layer of carbide along the edge of the blade. The carbide is considerably harder than the titanium; reinforcing the edge and giving it stability. The result is a sharp, lightweight knife with good edge retention.
- 6AL4V Titanium
- Extremely lightweight
- Satin finish
- 1/8 Stock
- Chisel hollow grind
- Faux carbide "hamon"
- Just over 5.25" OAL, Actual cutting edge of about 2"
- Extremely secure kydex sheath
- Razor Sharp
