Titanium Frame Lock

I was in your position too.
Looking for a Ti framelock, but at around $200.
I went with a small sebenza 21.

I know this might sound contradictory, dumb, and otherwise not to your needs - but my advice is to save up a little bit longer, and get a small sebenza 21 that can usually found used ~$250-80.

I know that you probably chose that price bracket for a reason, whether you can't afford that price of knife, or don't want to sink that much into a knife for whatever purpose, but a small 21 really is the best way to go. you really have to play with one to believe it.

the small 21 is a reallly tight package, super small, slim- yet outputs a perfectly sized blade for edc uses. super comfortable size grip that's perfectly usable for medium-large hands, and a extremely well designed blade geometry that delivers good strong cutting (normal uses) and takes a wicked edge.

other than that, the zt551 looks promising, but currently not my style for carrying.

I hear you load and clear. The Sebenza is THE knife which everything else seems to be judged. I have had the joy of playing with one a long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away, and loved it. Dont have a problem sinking that kinda money into a fixed blade/axe/hawk, its just I have not had the best of luck keaping pocket knives. Something nice, but not custom, and custom prices.

Hey Man, I'm telling you get that Buck Mayo TNT if you want email me and I'll tell you where to get one shipped to your door for 185, I promise you the knife is solid and is near custom like, smooth and just very well engineered and manf. You will not be sorry.

Tell you what email me and I"ll drop mine in the mail to you so you can check it out, I'm just down the road in lafayette.

Very nice of you! Just sent you a PM.

Well....I really liked the ZT0300, but might have to wait for the 0500. That thing looks awesome!

A couple of things might be worth mentioning. The 0500 is now discontinued, so if you want one, the bay is probably your best bet. And they aren't Ti framelocks either. If you are talking about the new 055x Hinderer/ZT collabs, you really need to get on a pre-order list. These will be sold out before they hit the streets.

I would email kershawguy and see what he has in the 030x series in a blem. Absolutely the best price you will find, and he ships very fast.

I have bought several blems from him, and honestly I have yet to find a flaw on any of them.

The most bang for the buck in a titanium frame lock is the Bradley Alias.

Im sorry, I did mean to say the 055x Hinderer not the older style.

Here is a comparison of the Buck 172 Mayo TNT, BM 635 mini Skirmish, BM 630 Skirmish, BM 760 Lum, and my production Kershaw JYDII in Ti/SG2:

Of the above, only the BM 760 is still widely available, all of the rest have been canned. Still, a search on evil-bay found over six new Buck TNT's for $189-$225 - some for $300, but they are Carbon Fiber/S30V.

As said, a blemished JYDII in Ti/SG2, like my production one above save 'XXXX' on it and inconsistent lamination widths from side to side, is available for $79 shipped from a Kershaw selling guy here on the 'For Sale - Dealers - Production' sub-forum. He also has ZT-300/301/302 inside your price range. I don't know anyone who has anything but praise for his service. Here are a few I've since added - all were <$200:

CW from lower left above, BM 790 Subrosa, BM 755 MPR, ZT-301, and Boker Haddock. I guess the Haddock is my least liked. My most common pocket pair is the blemished JYDII in Ti/SG2 and the real EDC BM 755, but it, like the Haddock, and I suppose even the ZT, is not an all-Ti framelock. That JYDII blem is a deal. It was identical to my production version, sharpness wise - a real microtome!

If your heart is set on a Sebbie, the Buck TNT is between the large and small in size - and very nice. Not a Sebbie, but hard to believe it's a Buck... and I love Bucks. The BM 790 Subrosa is a keeper, too - and easily found inside your limit. My only complaint is it's rather brisk assistance when openning - much more so than The ZT-301. Still, that should give you something to choose from.

I think the ZT300 is the perfect knife... other than its size.

I've never held one though, so I cant really say for sure that it's too big, but it looks that way in all of the reviews I see... looks HUGE!

What is the differences between the 300, 301 & 302? I see all the same specs?

I see a lot of people dont like this "recurve" blade of the 300, but frankly I like it a lot.

Why dont others like it? Is it just the look, or does it cut really weird?

those are some nice Tit framelock blades, if you ever wanna sell one let me know. Smooth........

Bump...

On another note, the Combative Edge M1 seems to be a bad ass knife... I cant find much info on it, it is a Ti Framelock? Anyone have an idea of the price?

I have had the bradley alias's (small and large) the Buck Mayo TNT, and now some sebenzas... All I have to say is that sebenzas laugh in the face of any other production folders. The buck mayo tnt is definitely a runner up though. This is a very smooth knife with an extremely solid lock up, good high hollow grind, and heat treatment by Paul Bos. I am sorry, but the Bradley's can not measure up to even the TNT. Even though the Bradleys are some of the finest knives that benchmade produces, that just goes to show how high of a standard the Buck Mayo TNT sets. It is a whole nother world for the Sebenzas though. As close to perfection as you can ask for.

If you can't afford a sebenza, or don't want to spend that much, then definitely get a buck mayo TNT. The alias would be my last choice from the bunch. Why, again, tnt has superior grind, fit and finish, and heat treat by best in the business... Mr. Bos....
