Titanium Liner so what's on the other side?

I know that the Liner on my Emersons are Titanium but does anyone know what metal is on the other side? At first I thought it was just a thinner piece of Titanium (because both sides look very similar under close inspection) but then after one camping trip I found a bit of rust on it. I just tested it right now and it isn't magnetic. I'm slightly disappointed because I thought my knife would be more corrosion resistant.

Any ideas whats on the other side?

Emerson web site says: "Liners Aerospace grade Titanium". That's liners....plural.

The "rust" might have come off something else????

I just got 2 of my emerson's back from service, I talked to the lady who worked on my knives and she said they have switched to stainless on one side and TI on the other.

Ernie was told to switch to SS on the lock side also. It is a good idea. SS should not rust though. Oh, be good to the Earf!

i believe EKI is switching to SS liners over Ti because of cost issues. i remember someone asking about this a short while back.

Lycosa- i see the Phantom strikes again !!!

Mine is a SuperCommander 2007. It rusted only on the other side, nothing on my Liner side. It was very specific only on near the thumb ramp and the grooves on the bottom. I thought it was strange too that it rusted but it was certainly from the liner and not rubbed off anywhere else. I'll try and see if I can dig up an old pic before I cleaned it off with some WD-40.

the newer ones are SS on 1 side/Ti on the other, they started that this summer IIRC, anything made prior to that /all customs are Ti/Ti.

& thats correct cost was the issue, i saw a post by ernie and he swore that he had thouroughly R&D'd the possible cons and found none.

they really shouldnt rust its stainless steel FWIW.

Hm... that sounds disappointing in regards of the switch. It feels more dignify and prestige to have both side being Ti. Ah well... Now let's see if the cost cutting have benefits to the end line users.

SIFU1A,
You got me. Some "phantom troll" struck. I think I'll keep it! What do you think? That troll had to spend $20. to do that. Ernie should do the locking bar in SS. I heard it makes a better lock-up than TI.

I was talking with a maker a few weeks ago (if I remember his name I'll edit it in here) and he told me that we'll see more SS and less Ti because the Chinese are buying up all the Ti they can get and that's driving the cost way up over here.

Gargs,
I was told SS makes a better lock-up than Ti. No sticking. Years back, a rep. from Benchmade told me that. He was right. I hope he is also good to the Earf! lol. Later.

steel may well give a more solid lock up but it will defo. deform less than Ti but SS will rust if left to the elements for long enough, also Ti obviously weighs much less.
I dont know if a steel frame lock would be something id go for but for liners its fine.

Hmmm...that probably explains it. It was a very wet camping 3 day weekend before I discovered the rust.

FWIW--- If I'm in the woods for an extended period of time, I take my Mission MPF-TI. That knife will do everything but rust. Did you pet a plant today? Happy Holidays!

JS,
Tell Ernie how you feel. Did you consider a frame-lock? It is a bummer about the titanium. Later.
