SIFU1A,
I uncovered the "phantoms. Yes, there are two, that I know of. If you want to know who they are, email me. You'll be Surprised! You guys have been on BF for awhile. I'd like to hear your take on this. Thanks!
Lycosa
Oh, be good to your mother---- Earf!

Lycosa,
I can't say if SS makes a better liner than TI, but ya gotta go with a guy who feels so deeply about muffler earf.
Gargs

Thanks Gargs!! I'm jest pass'n on what STR explained to me. It did make sense to me although it all works. My EDC is an HD-7. Rock solid Ti locking bar! STR got Ernie think'n about SS and that's hard to do! Merry Holidays!
Lycosa--- Earf Stewarrd!

If it's going to be a SS liner then their prices should go down?

I tested all my 5 Emersons now and all parts of the liner are non-magnetic so I pressume all Ti still.

Experienced that rusting on my CQC8 Waved as well, but I suppose it was only transfer from the knife it was sitting beside with inside my backpack when it got dumped in the river.

Has Emerson responded to this rust problem? I'd like to hear what they have to say. Can't have no rust!!

Here is a post from another site posted by Emerson regarding the liners and the change to SS for the non lock side.

"........Due to the rising cost of Titanium (It has tripled in price) we have switched to using a 300 series stainless steel liner on the detent side of our production knives. We are using it only on the detent, (top side) and not on the spring side, (liner lock) side. I have been considering using stainless steel for this side over the last year and we have done extensive testing and prototyping of the knives to satisfy our need to know that it would work correctly in use and maintain the integrity of our knives. As a result, we our totally satisfied with the performance of the steel for the detent side. Our first use was on the recent run of Karambits that we finished.

My custom knives will still feature the full titanium (both sides) liner construction..........."

I don't know why some people think Stainless Steel doesn't rust because it does rust. I had a $1300 Kimber 1911 SS that rusted(very tiny spots) simply by touching it and letting it sit for a couple weeks(even in a climate controlled building). Many metals are corrosion resistant, meaning they hold up better to environmental conditions, but this does not make them impervious to attacks. Even aluminum oxidizes.

I am pretty new to knives and read that some use wd-40 to clean/lube their knives. Is this standard practice? I would use wd-40 to clean a bicycle chain(that I didn't care about) but I wouldn't use it for a knife. There are so many other products that blow away wd-40's cleaning/lubricating properties and for the same $ also that why would you want to use wd-40? Break Free CLP is one of the best cleaner/lubricating oils I have used. Does anybody use this on their knives?

WD-40 works for me. Yes there are "better" lubes but since I clean my knife on a regular basis, why pay more for a more expensive lube? Chris Reeve Knives recommends WD-40.

GM---H1 is a great idea. Make the locking bar out of H1 also. I would definitely get one but Ernie Ego won't do it. I'll ask him though.
