Hello,
I've been trying to find some information on making titanium scales for fixed blade knives with no luck. I have access to a lot of titanium. I see it on folders all the time and it is normally milled.

-is titanium a good scale for a fixed blade?
-is it acceptable to grind and profile it like say, g10 or wood?

Thank you!

You have no luck in search probably because it s no cheap ,especially thicker piece .I wish I have access ... I can imagine Ti liners/colored/ under wood ......Or full Ti scale , why not ? The only flaw is that it s no that easy to work on Ti...

Thanks for your response! True. I found a machine shop on Craigslist that is selling 6al4v drops mostly in 1" for 6$/lb. It seems like a good deal so I'm gonna scoop up as much as I can.
I wouldn't mind sending some out to people who wanted to use them for fixed blade scales. I'd be curious as to how it would look. I think itd be a fun project.
As far as working with it goes I know it is a "sticky" sort of alloy so I'm sure it clogs up abrasives. Going to research it some more.
Have to drive 1.5 hours to get it but if anyone is interested in doing a fixed blade project hmu.

Be careful , to ordinary members are not allowed to mention any kind of sale here .I would like to see picture of what you get :)

1/4" titanium that is milled in a cross hatch pattern makes great scales.
You can also make it for a hidden tang by milling the tang recess in the backside of 3/8" thick scales.
If your pieces are large enough, you can mill the guard in as part of the scales, or do a three-piece frame handle.
