I put this out on another forum and figured what the heck I may as well make use of our new one here too right?
So anyway I upgraded my burgundy CJ just recently.
I did this kind of upgrade to a Salt 1 I had a while back and really carry that one a lot still. That one is on its way to a professional wood checkering expert to have some texture put on the scales. That may have something to do with what prompted me to do this one: withdrawls from not having my EDC on me for a while.
I had planned to leave this Burgundy CJ I bought as a safe queen but when I found out I had one that had a slight bow (warp) to the blade I moved it up to a user; only problem was I just didn't much care for the feminine burgundy color of the FRN handle or the tip down carry. Actually I'm not much of a fan of FRN regardless of the color but thats another story.
So I took off to my shop on a Jan day when mother nature gave us 75 degree heat and rebuilt me a new body for it. The blade, lock bar and spring are all reused factory Spyderco parts. The new handles are .103 thick 6AL-4V ti I bought from Chuck Bybee. Blade sports phosphorus bronze washers now and the knife has an adjustable pivot pin in a 3/16 stainless size with 1/4" heads. The knife is about the same thickness as the original FRN was only a little heavier now. I bead blasted the whole body after getting it shaped. It is virtually a tracing of the original handle choil and all.
The final step was making me a custom tip up carry pocket clip. Since then I've been carrying it. I may tweak on it a bit later or even come up with some kind of scales for it but for now I'm just enjoying using it.
Here you can see my upgraded one next to an original untouched NIB one for reference.
Thanks for checking it out.
