I have 4 sheets (aprox 13.5" x 13.5") of .125 6AL 4V that I'd like to sell, does anyone know what they are worth. Is anyone interested in buying them?

Hey, do i know you? Didnt I have a table by you in Janesville for a few years?

Well I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me what a good price for them would be, I've started searching the internet but I'll need to do a little more research. I was led to ebay and wound up buying some Ti rod while i was there. anyway, I'll try to find some of my old links to some places that sell Ti and see if I can figure out a way to price it.

Oh BTW, I have 8 sheets to sell not 4, I was diging through another storage box and found some more.

I've got some photos of the markings but i'll have to figure out later how to post them. The markings say:

TIMET AL 6-4 MIL-T-9046H
TYPE 3 COMP C GA. .125
HT-R9758 TEST-E6907
CMN-6AL 4V .125

The only clue I have to tell me what these are worth is ebay and K & G but if someone can give me a solid market prices per pound or sq. foot I'll price it under that.

Thanks, that site does help some, they dont have the same size sheet but it gives me an idea. I've put one of them on ebay just see what happens. I will sell a few of them for $65 ea if anyone wants one at that price, otherwise i'll just play around with ebay and see what i can get there.

An example from Titanium Joe's is:

1 0.1250 12.2500 36.0000 6AL-4V $ 226.23

Mine are a bit more than 1/3 of that size, 1/3 would be about $75
I'll charge actual shipping.

Last time I bough some from a surplus metal dealer here in Los Angeles, I paid $6.00 per lb. That was surplus, but all of it was marked 6ALV4 from the original mill and I was buying a small lot, about 25 lbs.

Some of what I bought was .080, some .125 and some was .750 x 1.500 bar that I have delusions of making an integral handled folder out of one day.

The metals market is pretty volatile. $75.00 for roughly a square foot is probably a little bit of a discount from top market pricing, but not too far off from there.

I can't remember the name of the place, and it probably wouldn't make a difference anyway unless you're local to L.A.. There's a whole scrap/surplus metals district in a bad part of town where it's ugly, so real estate is cheap relatively speaking. It seems that the metals dealers down town each sort of specialize in what type of metals they deal in. I found some that only did copper and brass. A couple that were aluminum only. Finally somebody pointed me to a guy who deals in "high alloy" metals. Once I convinced the folks that I really wanted to just buy a small quantity and wasn't there to rob them, they unbolted the barred door and let me in. The guy in charge led me out into a probably 30,000 sq. ft. warehouse and pointed me at a corner and said,"the 6/4's all over there, pick out what you want and have this guy over here weigh it, then come see me". I was so overwhelmed by the sheer amount that I was in hog heaven. There was literally tons of the stuff in all shapes and sizes. I blew it a little bit though. I bought a couple 2"x4"x4" chunks as well as about four feet of the above mentioned bar stock that I'm not sure I will ever find a use for. I should have bought more .250 and .125 sheet stock and some round stock to try my hand at making a Ti pen. The price was $6.00 per lb and the payment was green money.

I'll probably try to get back down there again the next time I get some time off when I'm not going on a real vacation. Now that I think about it, I bet Stellite falls under the "high alloy" banner.

This all happened about ten months ago, and while I know the metals market has gone up in value, even if it's doubles it would be a good deal. But this option is simply not available to everyone, and it did eat up a half tank of gas and most of a day. I did think that perhaps I should have bought a bunch and sold it off on ebay a piece at a time.

Les's price is probably fair considering it will just show up in the mail and doesn't involve all the complications.

I think that $65 is a really good price. I just check with McMaster Carr and they list a 12x12x0.125 piece for $249.82

I don't think that $75 is near top market price. I bet it will go for more than $65 on the "Bay."

Ok, let me re-phrase that. Les's price is a GREAT deal and it will be an easy and painless transaction.

I didn't do any online research before my first post, I was only basing my comment on my experience buying Ti. I knew I got a deal, but aparently it was a better deal than I thought.

Les, If I have caused you any grief here, please accept my sincerest appologies.
