Title was not appropriate - Gus (Bastid edited)

no practical reason. i collect knives, and a 7" maxx would be awesome.

Just goes to show how peoples tastes differ.......dont let me influence your choice though I'm sure I wont.....but it looks a little "blade heavy" being that titanium is lighter than steel....I'm not particularly keen on the fact that the handle in width reaches narrower points than width of blade giving it even more top heavy appearance ....being a jeweller I'm tired of titanium, being the fad that it is, its used more and more but its only a cheap metal that is hard to work with, wich is why its price goes up, it sure is a tough metal though, it actually doesnt look too bad when it's molded in with other materials, (havent seen that done in a knife yet though). This knife is just over priced for its design .....its a little too basic in its shapes for me. the handle is just 2 flat plates with holes.....and I can't stand those dicky little excuses for gaurds they have on this style of knife.....the blade being that big would look much better in a buff in my opinion.

I can see that knife flying out of my hand if I were to fling it open in a hurry. being that I would have to rely on grasping on to the clip in a flinging acting....the clip has a nice shape but its bordering on being a little small for the size of the knife

So my conclusion is that it definately wouldnt make my collection....in my opinion it is grossly inproportionate (big and ugly) and lacks imagination....it would probably survive a nuclear blast though.

Holy Cow, that thing is a beast! I'd have to have my pockets enlarged to carry it!

GoldCutter, if you remove the guards, then you lose the primary way to open the knife. (you press down on one side of the flipper and flick the blade out)

I wouldn't remove them I just think that it should have more shapeliness around them giving them more emphasis, it would also help the action work better.

This knife looks unfinished to me, not enough curves and depth.

actually there is too much stuff I think that could change than I would bother to mention........and I'm not talking about reinventing the knife but it definately needs a few alterations or tweaking before it would impress me.

Then again Ayzianboy likes it so maybe I'm a minority opinion....But really if you're gonna rip off the basic stiletto shape, then shouldnt you make sure you have a flawless modern version that surpasses the the timeless standards that the origional did?

I also have a rugular CUDA Maxx and love it. I think the design is superb, And I hope one day I can afford a Darrel Ralph custom! But hey, to each his own!

Every knife design is a matter of personal taste. Darrel Ralph's designs are extremely successful, as customs, productions, and kits. I've got two Camillus CUDA Maxx bowies and one custom Madd Maxx dagger, so you know what I think of them. :) This "Gibbs" Maxx is essentially the same as previous knives in this line, simply larger. I handled a prototype at a show and found it as smooth and comfortable as any of mine.

The blade shape that Darrel calls a dagger on his Madd Maxx is called a stiletto on the CUDA Maxx version. The blade shape on the 7" is technically a spearpoint: the back drops down as much as the single edge sweeps up to meet at the midpoint.

*Warning* Sebanista's, I'm not making a knife to knife comparison or saying DDR's knives are "similar" to a Sebbie.

Now that we got that out of the way, I do consider, at least in my case, that both Sebbies and the Maxx's fall into the same type of category. I.e. that you either hate them or love them, without many people in between. I've owned a whole bunch of each, both customs/non-standard and plain/factory. And even though I always end up trading/selling them, it seems like I always end up with another one. And when I do have them I almost always end up carrying and using them, without any complaints on design/fit or usefullness.

Nice move, titling your thread with a tasteless and disrespectful use of the name of my Lord. Was that really necessary?

not that I'm religious, but I have to agree. it's not a cool thing to me.

knife-wise, I think that DDR looks really cool. would never buy it cos I can't carry it, but cool nevertheless.

I wonder .....did Jesus carry a knife?????????

historical records show that he was a carpenter, so he must have used edged tools quite a lot. I'm sure most people had one blade or another...didn't Peter have a sword?

sorry if i offended anyone with the title :P

goldcutter, that knife wouldn't fly out of your hand. the blade of the cuda maxx's almost feel like they're on ball bearings (i own the 5.5 stiletto maxx). just press in the guard and move your wrist slightly and it slides open very smoothly.
