Yeah Gary if you don’t like that finish which is now pretty popular in a lot of places I’d just send it back or flip it. Kydex is going to keep eating away at in and it’s made to look like beat up blue jeans. Sorry bud. Good to hear from ya
 
If its a user I suggest jump in the puddle already and get it over with, and put your own custom level finish on it, if you know what I mean, if its for looskies return it and get an uncoated offering
 
Can you post pics of the entire knife and not just a closeup of the scratch/blemish in question?
 
If “battle worn” is the theme for the rest of the knife and similar imperfections appear elsewhere, then maybe it is supposed to be that way. If the rest of the knife is in pristine aesthetic condition then yes, I’d call busllshit on that explanation.
 
People used to, and maybe still do, pay extra for new jeans with torn knees. Battleworn, added to dictionary, shows effort on the part of the maker to give you that look of product efficacy. Be grateful for his attention to detail.

The scratched area is definitely not rubbing on the kydex, it clears with space. Grabs at the grips with thumb knurling cut into kydex for deployment. Tim makes the best kydex sheaths hands down of any makers I've seen..

I've talked with Tim many times in the past. Not sure why he allowed this gal to BS me. Guess she didn't realize I'm a senior mil veteran..

As said, Gideon is designed for self defense. I never leave home without a fixed blade at my appendix. Old (bad) habits never die;-)

Kydex Will scratch every knife.
Well, actually it's not the kydex, but the plastic will get articles inbeadded into it, and those grits will scratch your knife.

Pretty knives Should probably be in leather.
My knife and Glock are tools. Kydex is slim, and it holds how I want. Things will get scratches.....

*edit to add. There are techniques I've learned this past year that will lessen the chance of scratches, but there is still a chance. Unfortunately.

-Appendix is a great way to carry. I wish you luck, and hope it all works out for you.
