Tlingit inspired Raven knife

Thanks, Scott.

I got the stencils in yesterday and did the electro etch of the glyph.

As you can see, I have a lot of sanding left to do before I do the FC etch. but I should be able to find time to get that done before my next business trip... I hope.

This week I press-fitted the brass eye into place, and now I'm pitting the finishing touches on the handle. Had to lose the feather... it was just getting in the way.

It's been a while since I read through this thread. If you don't mind my asking , how's this a knife? Where's the cutting edge(s)? I could see if it didn't have the seed or berry in its mouth that it could be a wicked double bladed push dagger. The open V-slot could then work for all kinds of tasks like cutting light rope and cord, opening envelopes and packages, etc. I'm not sure if you have any potential functionality in mind. Just wondering.

It's a fair question, and the answer is it is more of a KSO than a knife. It does have an edge, but not a particularly sharp one. For me this was more about form than function. I wanted to use the last of the double sharks tooth damascus, and had only enough for a push dagger. The sun in the raven's mouth is part of the Tlingit symbolism associated with the Raven (part of their creation myth).

Sometimes I just do things for aesthetic appeal. This is one of those times.

I thought the same thing as Phil. I see it more as a sculpture than even a KSO. Maybe sculpting is a direction you should take given your creativity. On a side note I would do some finish on the neck part, feathers maybe.

I thought about feather designs in the neck but couldn't think of a way to execute that satisfied me. Too late now, as it has been assembled.

All right, I've reached a stopping point on this one. I'm going to switch my attentions now to finishing the forged blade I bought from Rick.

I'm not at all satisfied with the edges of the handle, but I don't have any brainstorms, nor any time to deal with it now.
