Recommendation? TM Dowell

He was also a member of AKI, which is the most prestigious show in the world, since 1983.

Good day. This is Jeff Dowell. Ted Dowell son. I live in Bend OR, work out of his old shop regularly (though not on knives, just handicraft stuff) and provide daily care and company to my mom (Ted's widow), Betty.

There's lots of great info about this particular era of knife that's already been provided by those above. That said, for the past few years I have putting together what I hope will become the definitive website on Dad and his work. It will be launched in roughly 45-60 days at: www.tmdknives.com There is a 'placeholder' home page at that address now. Once launched, one will be able to determine almost all the info you are seeking on this particular knife from a digital catalog archives of every TMD Catalog ever produced, as well as their accompanying price lists. A pictorial library of many of his most elaborate art pieces that he produced. All magazine articles ever written and published on dad, all TMD newsletters ever created and sent out, etc.

I'll post here again once it is up and running. And thank you, to everyone who has posted the kind words and comments of appreciation for his work.

JD

Wow, thanks Jeff, very cool to hear from you! Any update on the website? Sorry for the late reply I just checked this thread on a whim and saw your post. Still very interested to learn more about this knife! Thanks again,
Luke

YES, Finally! As with most endeavors, this one has taken FAR MORE TIME than I ever imagined. I'm in final draft and proof-reading now, and expect to turn everything over to the Web Developer guy by end of this week. I will post to here the moment it goes live.

To give you a little bit of an idea about some of the things the site will have upon launch:

Get a Historical Perspective on Ted and Betty Dowell, and TMD Knives

Get an in-depth understanding about Key Events in not only TMD’s history, but also of Teds involvement of with the Knifemakers Guild, the Art Knife Invitational, the Integral knife, the Michael Price Dagger Series, etc.

Reference the TMD Archives of every Catalog, Price List and Newsletter ever published

Determine the approximate the age and original selling price of many ‘standard’ TMD knives

Locate the name and published date of hundreds of articles which mention TMD Knives

View a Photo Gallery of some of TMD’s best known knives, or submit a photo of your TMD
