To all knife makers and all user's of this forum living in the state of Washington . My wife just came across this article in the paper . The Chinook Observer .
I tried to scan and copy the article but I am computer stupid and it did not work . So I will just give the jest of this .

Bill # SB 5525 , presented to the state legislation . Let me start with this , 42 senators voted for it , 5 were missing , and 2 voted against it .

It is a bill for early release of felons , to included those convicted of property damage , sex offenses , crimes against persons , violent offenses and drug crimes , who have served 15 % of there sentence .

Now this being bad enough , they passed giving all of these DREGS , $ 500.00 a month for 3 months to help them get re-established into society .

Just thought I would share this . Our tax dollars at work .

Welcome to Washington Toecutter .

That should really deter crime, I am amazed at this. They should move them in those damn senators houses or neighborhoods, you think they would like that?

Ya, our tax dollars at work........

What really pisses me off about $hit like this is that the Wahsington state legislators are cutting ALL essential services, blaming it on the poor economy.
Releasing felons, cutting police, education, etc.

Ok, the economy is bad.....

Then I read in the Longview (Washington) paper (The Daily News) about how these same legislators are going to spend over 1 MILLION dollars to finish refurbishing the old Columbia theater in Longview and another 1 million + for other such works in the area.

THEN the paper carried an article (yesterday) about how the Kelso school district is going to have to lay off 31 teachers for the next school year.

I may be wrong, but I'll bet this kind of spending is going on all over the state.

Sure seems to me that we should absolutely NOT be refurbishing a theater (and other such pork) while we have to lay off teachers and release felons.

Keep the ESSENTIAL services and cut the feel good crap! How may teachers sallary would a million dollars pay for?

Seems like they are telling us that we either support MUCH higher taxes or they are going to make us pay in other ways.

It's way past time for a revolution!

Longview is in so much trouble . The Meth dealers with connections to the cartel in mexico , gangs are growing and they have off shutes on the coast here in Long Beach .
I'm always armed now when I go to Longview . Sad thing .

Jack ONeill (two L's; no apostrophe?),

I don't even take my garbage out unarmed these days. It is a sad thing, but I got used to wearing a firearm since being in law enforcement. I feel nekkid without my 45.

Mind if I ask what you're carrying?

Longview does have more than it's share of problems.
I've been in this area for about 11 years now and can say that the problems here are, indeed getting worse. But they are still better than what I lived with when I lived in Nampa, Idaho.

Nampa used to be a nice, quiet little town but along with phenominal growth came the gangs, drive by shootings, and HUGE drug problems. All far worse than Longview is today, but Longview is sure headed in that direction.

Don't blame you a bit for coming to town armed---always a wise thing to do.

I heard about that from somebody here that works at the prison. They are also transferring some of the gang members to Walla Walla which in turn will bring their families too. To top it off the state has laid off some of our prison guards.

Remind me to go down and get my concealed weapons permit started. Don't get me started on the stupidity of our "War on Drugs". A complete and total failure which has created way more problems than it ever solved.

Sure, why not, release the fellons, layoff the police and then act surprised when violent crime goes up so you can blame it the lack of gun control! Got my CCW years ago!

Jim , you are on your way to Montana , probably don't need a permit there .

Sorry to hear that Bruce . I lived in a town where that happened . It was not nice .

In Montana you can get a concealed carry permit unless the sheriff can show in open court why you should not have one. Also, in Montana a weapon is only considered concealed when it is actually concealed upon your person. A pistol in your glove compartment or anywhere else in your car, is not a concealed weapon even if not visible. A pistol in a womans purse laying on the seat of a car would not be a concealed weapon. If you are outside of any town or village and engaged in a lawful outdoor activity. IE walking your dog or taking a hike you do not need a permit to have a concealed weapon even if it is on your person and not visible. In other words you only need a concealed weapons permit to carry a pistol concealed upon your person if you are in town. A loaded pistol or rifle in your vehicle is considered normal and wouldn't even raise an eyebrow.

That was how Nevada law was when I lived there . it was nice . Just to have a concealed pistol in your truck here in our state you need a ccw permit . But they are inexpensive and easy , as it should be .
Montana will be my next move , if I have to move .

I also would like to move to Montana, just can't make the money.

Jack O'Neill (SG-!) always told people: "That's O'Neill, with two L's." And he would hold up three fingers. Good Irish name.

Yeah, Nevada is cool. Been here since 98. I escaped from SPRK.

I spoke with B.V. on the phone today. We're gonna get together for lunch next week and talk about knives and such. He's gonna show me how to grind a blade and introduce me to a couple of other local makers and I'm gonna help him with handles.

Nevada is pretty gun friendly and the knife laws are about the same as any other place. You know, no auto knives, butterfly knives, so I just keep mine in my safe.

Boy, I sure am glad I live on the "right" side of the state. I don't feel any need to be armed, except on rare ocassion. :)
I believe you can thank our growth management laws (state and federal) for a lot of our problems. We have been led to believe that "urban sprawl" is bad. So we concentrate people in small pockets and then wonder why crime rates escalate. When you drive or fly across this state you'll see most of it is sparsley occupied. But the laws call 7.5 houses per acre "low density". And cities are required to adopt standards that create overcrowding. When everyone lives in people warehouses (apartments) crime rises because the opportunities are more abundant. We do live in a state with liberal leanings (mostly on the left side :) ), so we can expect the laws to reflect this.
Be vocal with the lawmakers!

I blame this on Global Warming, it allows all those Fruits and Nuts to grow here! A good cold winter normally takes care of these things in better areas.
