To anyone anti-Benchmade, is the Axis lock the reason why you won't buy one?

I've been a BM fan for years. Still use my Mini AFCK. I occasionally carry a Mini Grip and Mini Reflex. I've waited yrs. for a Manual Spear Pt. Stryker but the Axis lock is keeping me back. I prefer the ergos of the liner lock over the axis and the omega spring also bothers me. I hate to say it but Benchmade, Emerson, and Microtech knives are all out of my budget now.:(

While I think the Axis lock is perfectly functional under ideal conditions, it's all but useless when I'm back on the farm. Dust, dirt, and plant matter quickly clog it up and impede its use. As a result, I hesitate to carry Benchmade while working outside. Framelocks, liner locks, lockbacks, etc are not impervious to dirt, but they last far longer than their Axis lock counterparts.

Love the Axis lock. The main issue I have with Benchmade knives are plasticine screws. Especially on Grips. Years pass and it drives me crazy that the problem with screws is still here.

What is a plasticine screw?

And where the hell are they. I've never run across an Axis knife with anything but metal screws. Do I need to shoot the dog and get a new cane?

Price is the only thing the deters me from BM, most of the time. Luckily I stocked up last Fall before the price jump. I'm sure I will buy more in the future but my not like I have in the past.

Started making plans with a new machine operator today. Looks to be my age.
He noticed my benchmade in my pocket and I showed it to him. My new Ritter.
He pulled out his decade old beaten 440C grip with combo edge blade. Locks up was perfect after all these years. Serrations were almost worn away and the brown GTX handle was faded and melted in one spot.
Just happy to see somebody carry a good knife once in a while. Next week I am going to rejuvenate it for him.

I have to chime in hear I have a benchmade volli and one of the springs broke and I thought no big deal there is another but about 2 months later that one broke. Im not saying this happens often but it did happen to me. I drive for a living and I carry at least 2 knives with me and when im bored wich is alot I flick my knives hundreds of times. I currently own 5 other benchmades and never had any issues with them just wanted to put in my 3 cents. I do like my benchmades and the axis lock is hard to beat.

Out of curiosity, what did you do with it? Also, did you run it with only one spring working prior to the second break or had it been fully repaired and then the second one broke? Hope that makes sense.

It's not that I don't like benchmade but the axis lock is a turn off for me, nothing against it but benchmades big fault for me is the fact that most of their knives use it. I would like to see a better variety of lock types which I know they do some differently but most of them are axis lock. Also I think they need to start releasing different designs because lately it just seems like they do the same old designs in different configurations. plus the fact their prices are a little high for some models for what you get in the knife and I just think there are better locks out there that are superior to the axis ....just my opinion

I prefer the axis lock. I have had my 551 griptillian with 440c for about 10 years and it is still rock solid with NO up down/side to side blade movement. I have not handled any of the newer realeases with 154 but I imagine they are just as well built. I find the axis lock to be very strong and reliable after all these years.
