I was thinking about darkening the micarta handles on my Izula II, and would like to know what I could use to do this without damaging the micarta or making them slippery.

has no ill effect except on the color of scales,
I dyed my Wife DT ESEE4 canvas micarta scales pink, still has a great texture & grippy-ness to 'em

Not sure how dark you are looking for but using the knife will darken it. The oils from your skin will sink in. My HEST and Izula II both got dark quickly since they've been neck carried next to my skin.

God bless,
Adam

I've got some spirit based leather dye I'm going to try this weekend.
opther folks have had pretty good luck with RIT and a hot water bath.

Was thinking about going black but did not want the handles to stain my hands when in use.

liquid rit fabric dye. it won't stain your hands or run when wet.

Tony- If I was gonna use the RIT liquid how would you recommend dying the handle? Appreciate the help man.

I did this with the powder
okay I picked up some rose pedal pink powder RIT Dye , kinda sorta gloss over directions boiled some water on the stove ,tossed in the scales ,dumped the pouch of dye powder ,waited until it boiled a tad stirred for 2-3 minutes ,pull out scales ,rinsed scales off until water was clear and let dry on a paper towel and then once dry ,I installed the scales back on to the DT4 , after job was completed I glossed over directions again and in small print mention something about using less dye for lighter shade of pink

Thanks guys! So far the RIT method sounds quick, clean, and most important, easy!

ditto ttd's instructions. i even dye'd a leather sheath with rit once. careful not to splash since it'll stain a lot of things!

No worries, if I splash a little of that black rit the girlfriend will never notice it on the black stove top, or the black granit counter tops. Think I'm in the clear but, you never know... I'll let you all know after its done, if you don't hear from me in a few days, send help!

OP,

I bought some powdered dye for a completely different project at a local craft store, and this was the result. No bleeding at all!
